Steamworks

I just got the fallout vegas expansion, and found out is steamworks based( barf) do i need to be online to play, if so i will be pissed

Steam has offline mode which requires no internet connection.

but everytime i try to play with the wifi turned off on my laptop( a sony Viao) it starts the steamworks connetion then offers to do the offline, but when i click on that link it closes

Do you have a limited Internet connection or something? IIRC, you can just log on Steam as usual, then AFTER it loads simply switch off the Internet connection. Voila, offline mode.

the point is, i dont want to be online to play this game
i bought it to play when i do not have internet,as a truck driver i am not always able to get to a wifi hotspot so i don always get wifi

This is a requirement of all steam games unfortunately and there is no legal way around it. Portable gaming hasn't caught on with big titles yet on the PC side.

Edit: After reading the link you only have to do it once it's installed apparently, which means it should work in offline mode after that without having to log in every time you game.
