"Steel Sword" - not Steel short sword or steel longs

Post » Thu Jul 28, 2011 6:30 am

Why? That's 70 percent who either actively oppose it or do not care. Including the feature obviously costs time and money, so if only 30 percent of the audience will actually care, how is that time and money justified (purely from a financial perspective, of course)?

If that 30% cares enough so that they don't buy in the first half year but wait for a price drop, do you have any idea what impact that has on revenue? "Only" 30% means almost one third of the audience....

I used shortswords all the time! They were badass. Longswords just felt really unwieldy once you got used to shortswords. I can't imagine BGS putting in dual wielding and taking them out - they're the ideal dual wielding weapons!

actually historically they were used for either parrying weapons or weapons in confined spaces like tight hallways and corridors. thats one of the reasons why the samurai caried the wakazashi, was so when they were in small houses they could still defend themselves because the katana was too long to use effectively in most houses.

Actually, historically, they were used for tight formations in battle. The Romans used the Gladius, the Franks both the Gladius and the single-bladed Sax. When you're standing in a tight formation with shields, swings for cutting aren't really an option, but stabs with a short blade are.

Let's be honest here, the majority of that 30 percent will still buy the game on release. I think even 5 percent abstaining would be a generous estimate. At least as far as your average forum goer is concerned. And I'm not really convinced that there is even 30 percent who are adamantly opposed to it's removal. A fairer estimate is probably more along the lines of 10 percent.

What about removing maces? They are just axes without blades. I don't use them.
What about removing two-handed weapons? They are slow and don't let you use the shield. I don't use them.
What about removing daggers? They are just small and weak swords, even worse than the shortswords. I don't use them.
What about removing spells? My character is a pure warrior. I don't use them
What about removing bows? I don't use them.
What about removing Sneak, Security and Chameleon? My character doesn't steal or hide, and I don't want to accidentally press CTRL on my Keyboard to enter in that annoying stealth mode.
What about removing Armorer? It's better paying craptons of gold to repair my expensive armor instead of wasting one hammer.
What about removing factions? I never join them.
What about removing monsters? I never fight.
What about removing jumping? I always walk.
What about removing walking? I always jump.

/end stupid post.

TES is about freedom of choice. Less stuff in general = Less freedom of choice. It doesn't matter how many people use it.
Nuff said.

I liked shortswords, but I won't be too bothered if they're taken out. It's more like a "Why take them out when they're so easy to implement?" then actually being annoyed. I just thought they looked cool, and that was just the steel shortsword.

I only used shortswords when I had to, I will not miss them if they are removed. On the other hand I will be upset if they removed them, some poeple like them and I have no problem standing up and defending as many playing styles as posible.... I like options!

Just because you don't use them, doesn't mean they should be removed.

Who knows, the short & long sword stats (reach/length/speed) may still all be there and we'll have nothing to worry about just because something is classified as just a "sword".

Actually historically they didn't exist. And the same goes for crossbows and spears. Skyrim is simply proving it!

In all the seriousness I'm able to manage though, it seems very likely that they removed shortswords (which I guess adds another weapon to the list), and they really didn't seem to bother too much with them in Oblivion. Some looked fine, but others like the glass and ebony shortswords looked like the longswords' little brother.
But you still have daggers... who doesn't like daggers? :D

Either the swords are named Iron Sword + Short/Long Iron Sword...

OR

They've lied about giving us more variety with items.

I like short swords because of the balance between speed and range. Long swords can sometimes feel too slow and daggers dont have enough range. Short swords are a good middle ground between the two, so I hope they are not removed.

There's also an "Iron Shield" and then "Banded Iron Shield" so it doesn't mean we can't have swords and short swords.

Stop. Just stop.
Stop over anolyzing everything just to find a vague detail that might] point to something some people may not like. It is REALLY getting old.

I seriously doubt that short swords have been removed. They already confirmed that there are short bows and longbows, for one. That aside, this was an early build of the game with an unfinished interface, and many of the equipment items shown obviously didn't have their final names or stats.

Basically, just stop worrying. We don't have a ton of confirmed information and...

Assuming makes an ass out of you and me.

We do it because we're bored and we really, really need this game badly, so of course we will speculate and anticipate this game to Oblivion (hurrr hurrr hurrr). Anyway, I haven't posted here in months, so to make this thread and get 4 pages is very encouraging to me as it shows that this community is really thriving. There's a real buzz going on, and I'm here before the sh*tstorm that will commence at release.

What, and take away about 60% of the forum activity?

Seriously though, as much as we'd like this to happen, it won't. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. =/

People thought the same thing since there was only "Long bow" that there was only long bow and short bow. but then it was confirmed that there are more bows.

while the wording bothers me a little bit, it could just be that there are sword and long swords, or that there are short swords, swords, and long swords

or that all swords have different lengths and reach....

I don't see the point of shortswords. I never found an archtype that would use them instead of daggers/longswords.

I'm playing through the shivering isles right now, and i havent come across one short sword yet, about 10 hours spent in it. Doesn't irk me, but all the same if shortswords are actually in I suppose it would be good news.

I just hope claymores are still in. I haven't seen any claymores yet. And I hope they are a viable alternative to sword and shield.

claymores are in, have u seen the pics? this one reminds me of conan
