Steel Tide

I am trying to write something from scratch for a change. It is set in the Elder Scrolls universe but more about that later.

I figured that it would be a good way to hone both my English and general writing skills. Additionally I can also use it to draw attention to my upcoming blog - which can be found in my signature - and of course because I enjoy it.

Now, on to the story itself or rather its first part. This is the part I have always liked the most, both as a reader and a writer. The feeling you get when you are first svcked into a whole new world almost compares to the trouble you have to go through shaping it. Mostly because beginnings are pretty hard to write, since I have to make you imagine the landscape. You need to see the castle, hear the clashing of swords and smell the kitchens. Only then can you begin to imagine its endless hallways and majestic towers. Only then can you read this story.

Steel Tide

Shivers (Part 1)

“Again. You need to concentrate.” said Roggar, the stern master-at-arms as Gared was still feeling dizzy from the previous two hits he had taken. He did not immediately react and was promptly greeted by another hit on his forehead. “And once more. Why did you let your guard drop?” The stick seemed to move on his own in Roggar's hands. “Stop.” gasped Gared. “I heard you.” He hoped that his teacher had heard him. Roggar just stared at him in disappointment. “I must say that I expected more from you, my lord.” he mocked before walking away. Exhausted Gared laid down on his back and stared at the sky. These daily trainings had always been bad, but ever since Roggar arrived. That new teacher was unforgiving and Gared though that he did not respect him at all. When his father spoke all other voices were silenced. Why can't I do that with Roggar? Gared could do so most of the time, due to his muscular build and low baritone. But somehow Roggar did not care, he knew better. He finally stood up and walked out the pain. At least there would be a good meal waiting for him in the hall...
