Dude, people who buy CoD games are everyone. Saying Skyrim needs to compete with CoD is like saying Skyrim needs to compete with Facebook. Anyone that buys CoD and likes Skyrim will buy both.
And yeah, CoD games have degraded into crap, but, speaking as a teenager, it's just where we meet our friends these days. We play CoD for the same reason we go to the mall: It's crowded, badly lit, and there hasn't been any real entertainment in it for a decade, but everyone knows how to get there and it's better than hanging out at the dirty Wal-Mart down the street (GTA IV).
Minecraft also isn't a real competitor because two million people have already bought it... The people who want it already own it. It might get a slight boost in sales around the release, especially if they release boxes to sell in stores, but ultimately, we already have it.
I'm gonna have to save up my money anyway, because I've been an Assassin's Creed fan since the first one was demoed at E3 in 2006 (I was a thirteen-year-old that skipped school to watch E3... Wish I could say I grew out of that), so AC:R is a given. I dunno why Assassin's Creed has gotten so much bad press just lately, it's still one of the most sophisticated action-adventure games available... Maybe it really is just because of the popularity it's achieved.
I'm also gonna get Skyward Sword, which means I have to dust off my Wii. What a horrible buy THAT was...
Still, it'll be worth it for a new Zelda!
