Stiff Competition In November

Post » Fri Jul 30, 2010 2:26 am

If a rap album and a heavy metal album are released the same week, would the rap fan buy the heavy metal album?

I like both genres just like I play all genres of video games. I can afford two 10 dollar albums on the same say, not two 60 dollar games.

Uncharted 3 is launching 11.1.11, MW3 was just leaked and it's releasing 11.8.11 the same week as Skyrim, Minecraft on 11.11.11 same say as Skyrim, and AC: Revelations is slated for November as well.

I'll only be getting Skyrim, but MW3 releasing that Tuesday with Skyrim on Friday troubles me. I wonder if Gamestop has ever had 2 midnight launches in the same week?

This is a bit of bad news for Bethesda, but I dont think it will have much impact on the Skyrim sales.

This is great news for gamers as with all these games there is little chance that we cant get hold of a copy of Skyrim on 11-11-11

Don't know about everyone else but this is all I want this year.

LA Noire: Ordered and coming soon.

Gears of War 3: Only because I want to see what happens with that.

Skyrim: Of course. Waiting to see what the special edition is like.

Maybe list:

Rage: Looks alright, but I can wait for that. Probably get it when it drops in price. Looks a bit mindless for me.
Batman AC: First one was ok but I got bored and didn't finish it.
Call of Duty MW3: Don't think I need another one of these, but we will see if it has good co-op and replay value.
Also I love bots, so if this one takes them out after BO I'm not in at all.
AC: Rev: Looks same as BH to be honest, may pick that up next year.

Don't forget the DLC will keep us busy too guys!

I'm on a pretty tight budget this year, due to some medical expenses this winter that I'm slowly paying off. So I only plan on getting just one game this Fall . . . Skyrim.

Every game developer knows that a "Holiday" release is going to be up against a lot of competition. October and November are known for their blockbusters, just like how July is known for it's blockbuster movies. Bethesdas is not surprised that there are other amazing games coming out at the same time.

Probably won't affect sales at all.
Elder Scrolls deserves that GOTY title, which can't really be said about COD. Uncharted might be one to look out for though (never played the series but I have heard very good reviews about it).
COD will probably drag away most of the FPS fans away as well though. Oh well, their loss.

In my opinion Uncharted is the most over rated game of all time, I honestly don't understand all the hype. Plus it is a PS3 exclusive, so people with a 360 or PC don't even class that as competition for what to buy. Call of duty has just gone every year since COD 4, and all of the fan boys of that probably wouldn't think about buying skyrim anyway. Minecraft is already owned by over 2 million people, I doubt they'll actually get many sales on the release day as it's just going to be another update and a status change.

Lucky I don't have to pay for being hospitalized or I would have probably been the same as you then. Having a operation svcks, left me with a massive scar on my neck. Hope yours wasn't anything serious.

Also BF3 rumors say it's released in November.. Still they are different genres

Skyrim will take RPG winner in November

Let BF3 and MW3 battle it out in the FPS (Go BF3!)

AC Revelations and Uncharted may fall on the same genre Adventure

Minecraft is on a completely different one, I don't know how to name it

Skyrim has nothing to worry about since ME3 was moved, they probably did it to dodge the bullet.

The problem with your theory, in my humble opinion, is that none of those games are even close to competing with Skyrim.

1) Uncharted won't get near the sales that Skyrim already has via pre-order.

2) Modern Warfare 3 is geared more towards the "screaming-prepubascent-12-year-old/can't-deal-with-losing-even-one-match/my-dad-bought-me-this-game-to-shut-me-up/now-that-I-play-Call-of-Duty-I-am-a-military-grade-weapons-expert" type of crowd. This game will generate much sales from allowance/shut-the-hell-up money, but won't touch Skyrim.

3) MInecraft is too much of a just-pass-the-time game to really be competition for Skyrim.

4) Assassin's Creed: Revelations will be cool (I plan on buying it as well), but it is more of a cult-classic game than a major competitor. It has a smaller following than the Elder Scrolls series.

5) Yes, Gamestop has done more than one midnight release in a week. It's hell on the employees, but good for hardcoe Gamers everywhere. lmao. But since most Gamestop employees are also Gamers, I don't think that they mind the extra work too much.

:obliviongate:

P.S. I can easily see Skyrim taking not only Best RPG of the Year, but also GOTY. I would say that it is nigh guaranteed, but I don't want to jinx anything...

Yeah the MW3 thing unnerves me. We all know how many fan boys there are for COD. Its the game I here people talk about 90% of the time.

This.

In terms of sales I'm betting the "meh" CoD will destroy Skyrim in terms of sales. I'm sure Black Ops owns some kind of record for that as of now. I can see MW3 beating that.
Does a game have to be good to sell well? No, hype sells games, but it also breeds disappointment. There will be one day when CoD will fall, but that won't be this year (I'm not
stuck on it by the way, I was making a point).

I'm not sure about that.

I'm interested in Skyrim (obviously), Uncharted 3, and Battlefield 3. If they all come out in the same month, I'll probably delay buying at least one of them. Not for financial reasons, but so I can enjoy each of them properly.

If I feel this way, there must be others...

I do, I'll play anything that looks fun. If Battlefield 3 drops in November and I only have the cash for one game Skyrim will have to wait until mid-January. Not a popular thought on these boards but it's true.

Well your right that is some tough competion in november, im still confident though that Skyrim will win GOTY. I would choose Skyrim anyday over these other games being released in november, the only 2 games im 100% buying at the end of this year is Skyrim and Mass Effect 3.

If Skyrim is everything I think it will be (judging by screenshots, story, new mechanics, etc.), I'm not sure I'll have the time to pick up Mass Effect 3. lol Commander Shepard amay have to do this one without me. lol

The other games are just crap in my opinion, and while MW3 will generate sales off of kid-hype, it will quickly get hacker-broken (within 48 hours just like Black Ops), then people will naturally gravitate away from it. That and MW3 will only be a re-skin of MW2, just with some of the names and names of locations changed. The maps will be damn near identical, the story as well. It'll svck butt pretty hard...

So I don't see much competition coming from that direction either.

Yeah that's not gonna' go down murderously well around here lol. :woot:

In all seriousness though, Elder scrolls only happens like every 4-5 years and BF is like very two. I'm not a big fan of BF myself as I just don't get what to do or why everyone keeps stealing the helicopter I can't actually fly from under my nose.
The first time I got in it I got to about 10 feet and crashed it into a 5 foot wall and killed everyone inside who was stupid enough to get in. I also feel like I'm always running in that game for some reason as well. Maps are too big lol.

As my point still stands, Elder Scrolls is more worth it to me, but if that's what you like then I'm fine with that.

O M G.

lol. I can actually see the logic behind that - Skyrim is offline after all. But I will definitely buy Skyrim over anything else...

Only competition is Uncharted 3 and still that's a whole different genre... Skyrim is a RPG with swords and magic like stuff and Uncharted is a 3rd person shooter with guns... two different crowds...

I don't really think this is much of a competition. I mean, the games are all quite different and offer very different kinds of game experiences, so they target different kind of gamers. I don't think there are that many people who are interested in several of those games.

Only other one of those I'm interested in is Minecraft..... and it really shouldn't be on the "competition" list since, 1) it's a little indie game, it's not going to be grabbing advertising or shelf space; and 2) more importantly, most anyone who's interested in Minecraft already has it - the "alpha" and "beta" stages of development were actually playable and copies have been on sale for months and months. It's already cleared 2mil sales. (I paid for it last September, for instance.)

Pride in one of your favorite franchises and recognition of the actual best game of the year (not like the Red Dead Redemption fiasco... that game svcked so hard...).

That's why I care at least.
