Stiff Competition In November

Post » Thu Jul 29, 2010 12:32 pm

Uncharted 3 is launching 11.1.11, MW3 was just leaked and it's releasing 11.8.11 the same week as Skyrim, Minecraft on 11.11.11 same say as Skyrim, and AC: Revelations is slated for November as well.

I'll only be getting Skyrim, but MW3 releasing that Tuesday with Skyrim on Friday troubles me. I wonder if Gamestop has ever had 2 midnight launches in the same week?

I'm not concerned at all as none of those games besides Skyrim are GOAT.

I agree, but Uncharted 2 was GotY in 2009. Modern Warfare 3 launching 3 days before Skyrim better not delay it.

Push it forward to October guys, you know you want to! The game looks virtually finished anyway now. Two weeks less dev time is not going to harm the game if they release it near the end of October.
If it were me I would be worried about Call of Duty more than anything, we all know some idiots are going to go for that as their first choice.

Stiff competition, but the sales boost from the Holiday Season ™ will make up for that and more.

I don't really think this is much of a competition. I mean, the games are all quite different and offer very different kinds of game experiences, so they target different kind of gamers. I don't think there are that many people who are interested in several of those games.

If a rap album and a heavy metal album are released the same week, would the rap fan buy the heavy metal album?

I'm paranoid about Skyrim being delayed because of this.

Of course he would, it is after all the superior genre.

None of them are RPGs really, or anything closely resembling what Skyrim does, maybe except Minecraft...

Mass Effect 3 would've been a competition if it wouldn't been postponed.

They picked 11/11/11 for the reason that it is awesome. It isn't on a typical US release day (Tuesday). In every interview I have seen, they talk about still on track to meet that date. If anything were to delay it, it would be a gameplay issue (bug, more content, etc.) No outside force is going to keep Bethesda from that day, short of the world ending on May 21st.

I'm not sure about that.

I'm interested in Skyrim (obviously), Uncharted 3, and Battlefield 3. If they all come out in the same month, I'll probably delay buying at least one of them. Not for financial reasons, but so I can enjoy each of them properly.

If I feel this way, there must be others...

I understand what you are trying to say, but with games it's a lot different to me. In music I only like those genres you listed to be honest, but with games I am open to a much wider array of play styles. I welcome anything new and unique is what I am trying to say more-so than with music.
In that month I would like to play most of them games listed. In the end though Skyrim will be probably be my only game I buy because I am smart (maybe lol) and know that most of the other games will probably come down in price early next year. I do want to play them though right away, if you get me. Oh and also because Skyrim will keep me more than engaged of course, and I'm a busy person.

ME3 got out of dodge because of the stiff competition. I truly believe that. I hope the same fate doesn't succumb Skyrim.

Kind of understandable there would be a lot of major titles with release targets a week or two ahead of the biggest US retail weekend of the year.

And if the rumors prove to be true, a remake of Halo 1 could launch in November too.
