Stil Having Frame Rate Issues : Fallout: New Vegas

Hopefully someone can help here.
I bought the game day one - as i've done with every fallout since the first one - and it was unplayable out of the box. I decided to just put it aside for the time being and let some patches and fixes come out. well it's now been a few weeks, and i'm still not able to play this game. i've got a dual core machine w/ a decent video card and 4g of RAM, and this game plays like a slideshow - it took me an hour to create a character and get out of the doctor's house, and that's as far as i've managed to get.

when i start up the game, both cores immediately peg out to 100% and my fan goes into overdrive. outside of the d3d replacement dll - which didn't work for me - has anyone found another way to get up and running? Specs are below, and any help would be appreciated.

You're not alone mate. Apparently it was just not meant to be for me, owning a GeForce 9800 GT. The latest drivers make it worse for me, the dll fix doesnt work, and I'm stuck around 14 fps, at best.

Try forcing 2xAA/AF, and disabling shadows. The 2600 pro series is also a low-end budget card and suffers from shader issues.

I set the game to low and disabled everything i could and it's still a slideshow.
I understand that the 2600 is a budget card, but it's still beats the requirements, and by a pretty good amount - it's not like i'm on the bottom of the list.
If I can play fallout 3 on high with this card, there's no reason not to be able to play this one even on low with everything turned off.
At this point, I've dropped 60 bucks on a coaster.
And given that I only buy one game a month because of the cost, it kinda upsets me to give money to a company i've supported from day one that gave me a game that had no business going out the door when it did.
I'm not going to stop supporting Bethesda/Obsidian, but this really cooled me on them in a major way.

Hopefully I can get some other answers - and despite my tone I can't thank the forum enough for helping out and trying to get everyone up and running.

I am in the same boat as you. I have a GeForce 250 and even with the .dll file I am still getting bad frame rate issues. If I let the game sit for a while then some time the frame rate will be normal for a time, but as soon as I move around a little I am back to having real choppy graphics. I am on a tight budget as well and New Vegas was going to be my game for my Oct. paycheck. So far it has been a waste. I am frustrated and upset, and the lack of any real response from obsidian or bethesda is not helping.

I have lost all faith in these two companies and I think that Brink will be as big a foul up as New Vegas has been ... I suggest that anyone who is upset with the state of New Vegas and the lack of support from these two companies should no longer buy products from them starting with Brink. If you do still wish to buy from them give the game a few weeks before buying it so you can see if it's going to be bug ridden too.

I am in the same boat as you. I have a GeForce 250 and even with the .dll file I am still getting bad frame rate issues. If I let the game sit for a while then some time the frame rate will be normal for a time, but as soon as I move around a little I am back to having real choppy graphics. I am on a tight budget as well and New Vegas was going to be my game for my Oct. paycheck. So far it has been a waste. I am frustrated and upset, and the lack of any real response from obsidian or bethesda is not helping.

I have lost all faith in these two companies and I think that Brink will be as big a foul up as New Vegas has been ... I suggest that anyone who is upset with the state of New Vegas and the lack of support from these two companies should no longer buy products from them starting with Brink. If you do still wish to buy from them give the game a few weeks before buying it so you can see if it's going to be bug ridden too.

I'm starting to wonder if on top of the graphics card issues there's not an un-addressed memory leak issue going on as well.
I'm kinda surprised to see that within 5 minutes of loading the game i've maxed out both cores and my fan is going crazy.
I can't even exit the game w/o locking up. I have to ctrl-alt-del and kill the process to get out.

Sometimes it crashes the game when it minimizes, sometimes I hear the *ding* (The message popping up in the background.) but the game continues playing. Then when I quite I'm greeted with that window.
