Is FO:NV still buggy?

Post » Fri Feb 12, 2010 5:02 pm

i took a very long break from this game and haven't looked back at it until recently.

from what I've been finding in searches, it seems that some people were claiming a patch to fix the save corrupt glitch and other game breaking bugs WAS coming out, but yet at the same time i find recent search results of people with this problem (some on this very forum).

so what's the deal? are these bugs still prevalent, or are the people encountering the glitches not up to date with the new patch? thanks..

yes very much so. i just started playing this game a couple days ago and its extremely frustrating.

I havent come across one "game-breaking" bug yet, but all of the other little things are adding up to be ridiculous. enemies phase through the ground, turn invisible, or wont take damage. objects flash, npc's features stretch or look goofy, dialog doesnt match animations, and load screens freeze. im actually staring at a frozen load screen now and decided to come on to see if others were still having the same problems. glad to see im not alone with this p.o.s.

On the 360 (no, it is NOT over-heated), after all the patches, i still get...

01.) the 'stand still inside VATS' bug,
02.) the 'drawn weapon too high and blocking your view' bug,
03.) money piling up with old lady Gibson (i think it's at 60,000 now),
04.) inventory never emptying out from the shop in Dinky (still has every item i've ever sold him),
05.) traders being seperated from their brahmin and never connecting,
06.) traders getting clustered up in certain places and never becoming untangled
(what are they even doing in the middle of the fire ant/jalapeno plants wasteland area?),
07.) autosaves corrupting,
08.) super-laggy response time switching left or right inside the PIP, especially from the quests tab,
09.) items stacking on each other in inventory, even with different conditions,
10.) *severe* frame-rate stuttering *every time* i'm at the dam, even with no action taking place,

...and several others that aren't common. But the worst unique bug i've had is ED-E turning hostile after Dead Money, and the two worst repeating bugs driving me *crazy* are....

....the.....

....mind....

....numbingly.....

....slow.....

....load......

....times.

They have been up to five minutes long before, which is made all the more frustrating with the very rare moment when i go through a loading door and instantly pop out the other side. How is that possible? Why does the game take several minutes to load 99% of the time, and work instantly 1%?

The other bug i can count on happening at least once an hour, and that's the random game freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-*

Really, the only bug I get with any sort of consistency is the gun moving up and blocking my view. Normally I can just holster it and draw it back out to fix.

I've had a few crashes, but very rarely. (I'd guess 5-10 crashes total since launch)

I've also seen load times get REAALLLY slow once or twice. ReBooted the 360 to solve those.

All rather minor, IMO. I've never had a corrupt save or other major incident.

(360)
It still has bugs in the game... not all was fixed and the last patch caused a interesting freeze. meaning if you do a override save on a old save...you would face freezings fast travel, waiting, and entering buildings. radio hasn't changed.

I just got a new bug, FNV will not load! After 3 attempts it finally does, also rarely on the first shot. This svcks. As for other bugs, have not found them, yet! I will ignore the crashes to the desktop as it is a standard feature for FO3 and FNV. :)

On the 360 I got stuck in place so I had to reload when it finally loaded I was unable to use my right anolog, I couldn't look left or right or even up or down, I couldn't even turn around :sadvaultboy: I feel so helpless, and rather pissed off, I've read that you can fix this by reloading your last save but thats when it happened is when I reloaded so now I'm screwed! I've tried everything and I don't want to restart the whole game. Also if I bring up V.A.T.S. or the pip boy map I am able to scroll with the right anolog just not in game.

So funny story, I went to the strip to take out my frustration by killing everyone there, and when I walked into the tops casino and they asked for my weapons I said no and began shooting and out of nowhere I COULD MOVE AGAIN! buuuuuutttt now everyone on the strip hates me and I failed about 10 quests, so I tried reloading and no luck, went to the strip non hostile this time and went into the tops again. Gave them my weapons and wouldn't you know it, it worked I was able to turn and leave the casino all on my own and continue playing the game! :vaultboy:

i just read the update made by the staff regarding the next DLC and patch, and realized i forgot to mention a couple more common bugs.

11.) The PIP screen washing out in a blinding green still happens now and then. It just happened again yesterday twice.
12.) Quest Items. i am absolutely filled to the brim with them, long after the quest has been completed or 'broken'. i would bat my eyes and beg extra hard if there was a way to turn them into droppable items for collectors like myself. But i'd also happily settle for them just being gone.

Restarting my Xbox does not help the slow load times or lagging in any way whatsoever. Yesterday i experienced six freeze-restarts in four hours. They happened during a loading screen, during a save screen, and during play. Loading screen freezes seem to be the most common.

i would have posted this in the comprehensive bugs thread that was created and continued, but to be honest trying to sort through it gives me a headache.

It kinda makes me feel bad for the developers that have to sift through it...but then i think about how i pay for the priviledge to playtest this stuff....

the only real problems I've had with NV is getting stuck inside rocks/floor sometimes, and a major major CTD if I go to the end battle on the dam and the radio isn't on. Seriously.. if I have the radio on my pipboy switched on, the whole thing runs great. If I switch the radio off, CTD every time. Bizarre, something to do with ambient triggers maybe?

My ps3 started freezing after playing for a long time. I put my fan behind the ps3, now it works. Had to unplug my ps3 5 times at boulder city because pressing vats or holster or shoot caused it to freeze after encountering boulder city and it wouldn't turn off. After my fifth time, all bugs went away. I have only encountered floating old lady Gibson when I first met her :)

Out of the 40 hours I've had with vanilla, it had only crashed once on me, mostly because of my own doing (Gamebryo doesn't seem to like you Alt+Tabbing out of the game).

Out of the now 30 hours I've had with mods included, I've maybe crashed once because of the extra loading strain caused by hi-res textures.

All in all, it's actually been pretty stable for me. Much more stable than Oblivion or Fallout 3 were, even with patches.

In fact, even TF2 has crashed on me more times than New Vegas.

I don't know if I'm either super lucky, or everyone else is somehow indirectly screwing up their game, but either way, my experience has been rather painless. And with this new patch coming up, it should be even better.

The only bug I've ever had is occasionally in the beggining, Doc Mitchell sits there and refuses to talk to me xD but it goes away after a few tries usually. You can't make a complex game like Fallout NV un-buggy

I played F3 on xbox360, and between me and my roomates 300 or so hours of play (including all official DLC), we had combined maybe 25 freezes.

Then I got NV for my PS3. At first, everything was good. Then they started putting the patches out, and my game has been glitching more and more frequently. Up to date, these are the following problems I have run into:

1) I'll die in combat, often killing an enemy moments before, and when I respawn I get XP for killing that enemy. Messed up, but not that big a deal.
2) NPC will be stuck in the ground or through the roof. Once again, messed up, not that big a deal, and ultimately rather entertaining.
3) Enemies (particular radscorpions) will fall through the floor and I will not be able to kill them. Annoying, but managable. I just walk off.
4) One of my player's apendages will get stuck on something. Today, while in Helios one my arm got stuck in a wall and I remained trapped while watching Boone stare at me...for 2 solid minutes.
5) I will get stuck in the floor, or will fall into a rock and become trapped inside. This is a small annoyance, and often means reloading my autosave.
6) I will load my autosave and it will load me to a location several autosaves behind where I my last autosave was. Messed up, but now I get to rambo through the level again.
7) I will enter VATS and my character will just stand around rather than fire my weapon. This lasts until I die or my companion vanquishes my targeted foe. This is one of the more annoying glitches I encounter.
8) On a handfull of occations, I have gone to complete a quest, and the NPC I am supposed to talk to will not respond to me. Additionally, upon my first playthrough of the game, I beat the legat, and then the game just ended abbruptly. I was under the impression that this was how the game was supposed ot end (i.e. I thought DLC expanding the story was going to happen). It wasn't untill my second playthrough that I realised I had been cheated.
9) I occationally experience the weapon-in-face glitch. This is usually resolved quickly by entering stealth or holstering my weapon.
10) At certain distances (still within range of VATS) when ADS I find that the enemies do not take damage. For example, today it took me 16 shots with my 9mm to kill a bloatfly...all 16 shots hit. This is one of the more straining problems, as it is occuring with several different types of enemies, and is resulting in me running out of ammo rather often.
11) Then of course, there are the freezes. I find that these happen in clusters. Today, I gamed for 2 hours before my first freeze. 25 min later, my second freeze came. Followed by my third freeze 10 minutes after that. After that I was good for another couple hours. The day before, I had experienced only one freeze in a 2 hour session. Before the patches, I experienced freezes more often than F3, but far less frequently than they are occuring now.
12) I have also had problems with loading screens. Namely, that while attempting to load the game, my PS3 will shut down. I have witnessed a similar pattern here as with the freezes. They only occur when my game starts to freeze up often. They are far less frequent than the freezes however, and have only claimed my progress a handful of times. All fo these have been since the 1st patch.
13) I have noticed that certain graphic patches will not load textures while I am in certain areas.

I find these problems rather annoying, but with a game the size of Fallout it is expected. Further, with all the intricasies of the game some of these problems are unavoidable. It is the frequency with which they are occuring which I find troubling. These glitches will not disuade me thought. Despite these annoyances, I still love this game, and think that it is well worth the money I paid for it. It would be great if these problems could be fixed, or at least reduced in terms of frequency, but to be honest, I wouldnt let these problems keep you from playing the game.

I won't play a game when it's brand new (even if it's sat on my shelf) and always wait for a patch or two before I dive in. Consequently I've only been playing FNV since March and didn't experience in all its early buggy glory, but I have completed four playthroughs since then and there are a few issues still.

I've had the usual CTDs (most games will CTD on me from time to time, and Fallout 3 did so I was not surprised to get this) but it's not excessive. I've also had the lock-ups, which are less fun. Sometimes I can Ctrl-Alt-Del and restart the client but a couple of times I've needed to hit the reset button. There is a patch coming to fix this, apparently, so I guess we'll see. Again, though, it doesn't happen often.

There are clipping issues (creatures stuck in terrain, and sometimes my character stuck in terrain). The latter usually happens when I'm trying to climb somewhere I am probably not supposed to go - it's happened in the area around Lucky Jim's Mine a couple of times so it's proabably best not to try and take short cuts there.

The biggest problem for me, personally, is quests not working as they should. It may not necessarily be a bug so much as an oversight, in some cases, but I find that far more annoying than a CTD which is remedied by, well, restarting the client and carrying on as before.

Problems I've had (small spoilers):

We Will All Go Together: Sometimes not enough ghoul troopers seem to spawn and the quest can't be completed without cheating dogtags in using the console. The other problem is, if you do happen to find all the dogtags and give them to Sgt Astor before mentioning Edwards, he won't tell you about the place Edwards can go if he wants to continue serving in the NCR. Workaround: make sure you mention Edwards to Astor before handing in all the dogtags.

Wheel of Fortune: Sometimes Boxcars doesn't have any dialogue concerning this quest, making it impossible to complete. (Although sometimes it works just fine. It's a bit hit or miss).

Old School Ghoul: I've only recruited Raul once and he commented on the three characters he was supposed to, but didn't give me the final conversation where you can influence his outlook (and perk).

I Put a Spell on You: Not actually bugged, but you have to complete it in a very specific way (if playing for the NCR side) in order to get the "good" ending. Best to save before taking the quest.
