Still Going Morrowind Mod Sites? And Who's Still Here?

Post » Thu Sep 03, 2015 7:24 am

Yeah, it's been a loooong time. For quite a few years, our family has been going through some tough times. On top of all that, my hubby, whom I love very much, tends to lose hard drives and even power cords and such for data drives we do have that are not lost. So much of my old work and archives are still in a limbo. Every time I would start to think about modding again, I would realize most of the textures and work in that area were still lost somewhere. So I would go back to Everquest 2 until maybe some of that work would be found or recovered by my hubby, It can be depressing when I remember tons of work and textures that are still lost to me, But it's time to stop hiding in MMO wonderlands.

My site is gone. Turns out Zyweb had some sort of catastrophic failure happen, and they lost everything. I am so happy that the modder permissions I gathered so long ago are still on two sites. Thanks again to those that did that. I see that many other old modders' sites are gone as well. And what seemed the most stable site of all, file planet, is pretty much gone. It is good that most of the mods there are archived. But any site can go down eventually.

Morrowind is a great game, with an incredible history of modding. I still can't think of any game like it that is so modder friendly. I am still homeschooling our son, and I do immerse myself in EQ2. But I want to spend at least 4-5 hours a week working on preserving the mods and resources for Morrowind. Don't have that wonderful Zy site anymore. (Sigh) And funds are very tight for us. But I will be working on getting a text site back up with modder resource links again.

So first, which sites are accepting old mods and such? I want to get anything I have that is not currently available back on the net.

Welcome back. The two main sites that you'll probably want to look into are http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/?and http://www.modhistory.com/ as those seem to be the most stable at the moment, and have archived quite a bit from now offline sites like Planet Elder Scrolls.

http://mw.modhistory.com/home is always accepting old mods. Even duplicates of what we have are welcome.

If you have any to share they are welcome.

Also, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for wanting to share what you've still got with us!

All of the stuff on EricM is on ModHistory, thanks to Oldcow.

Though some of it maynot be availible for what ever reason the Modhistory Senior Curator has for their unavailibleness.

Hey, RTS! Welcome back! It's always neat to see old time modders returning. The Morrowind modding community is still going strong.

The two most common active mod hosting sites are the Nexus as mentioned above and http://download.fliggerty.com/. As far as modder sites... not many are actively maintained nowadays. Most people have migrated to forums, or tumblr, or I've seen some on deviantArt... I had a modding blog (http://dahrk.blogspot.com/) and a "https://sites.google.com/site/melchiorsmods/", but I don't use either much anymore since I mainly post random stuff on tumblr or here at the moment. You should check out the ModTown 2015 progress going on over at http://darkelfmodding.com/forum/index.php. Some projects (mostly province mods) are hosted at http://project-tamriel.com/portal.php. And of course, http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/ is still plugging away! And the Russian Morrowind community is still relatively active over at http://www.fullrest.ru/.

Not sure if you've noticed from lurking, but Darkelfguy is now hosting a https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTiULQ_bcPRu_jMTZ86WO7A as well as various events and projects which have done great things for Morrowind.

There are plenty of other things going on as well. But those are some highlights.

As was mentioned by some others before me, http://mw.modhistory.com/home (aka MMH) would indeed love to have all of your old work. I spent quite a bit of time and effort trying to chase down some of your old work, but I did not find all of it. Some of the community members here had some of it, and those were added to MMH. http://mw.modhistory.com/search-au-redwoodtreesprite of what we do have currently. Just in case you have forgotten, MMH is a part of http://www.fliggerty.com/phpBB3/ (I saw you have a GHF profile), so you can use your GHF login for MMH.

Additionally, Pseron Wyrd mentioned to me a couple years ago, you might possibly have a more updated version of Morrowind For Kids (MW4K). MMH would love to have that too...

To answer some other people's comments...

http://download.fliggerty.com (aka GHFDL) is more intended for recent and or currently active mods that are still being updated. MMH is the intended site to preserve any and all old mods, although it will also accept newly made ones too.

If a previously available mod is now not available on MMH, it is quite likely due to an author wishing it to be taken down. Which HAS happened to some recently. We do our best to honor mod author wishes on MMH and GHFDL.

Good to see you Redwoodtreesprite!

As others have said, Morrowind Modding History is currently the best general archive of (older) Morrowind Mods. They even archived my mods from PES, haha. :-)

I will keep a watch for the MW4K files. I have always kept every version I get of things, kind of a packrat of mods and such.

I couldn't find Morrowind 4 kids at MMH. What version do you have?

Haven't found the MW4K files yet, but would be good to know when I do hopefully find them.

That's true, but let face it even MMH can eventually be shut down in the future. Should MMH become a defunct site in the future what will happen to over 10-15K mods and that's worries me a bit.

I know how much work SpiritHawke has done since he took over from john.moonsugar 2-3 years ago I think and before that I once were the first Senior Curator for MMH.

TES Alliance are still operational and at least two more sites has been founded, and http://afkmods.iguanadons.net/ host the Unofficial Patches for both Oblivion and Skyrim. The other site is http://www.theassimilationlab.com/, TAL for short.

TAL hosts a couple of projects mostly for Oblivion, but there are a few other projects for both Morrowind and Skyrim. Plus I've mirror, with permission of course, a few Total War modders their modding work on TAL with a couple of other TW mods.

I have MW4K.rar, the MW4K_Chapter01_BETA.esp in that is dated 8/23/2003, version. I also have a couple other files that appear to be possible later additions, MW4K_Dhakos(13,-13)interiors.ace (8/25/2004), MW4K__interiortemplates_TAMIKO.zip (5/1/2004), MW4K_Tolenka(11,-19).ace (10/4/2004).
