Still haven't forgotten about Spears

Perhaps I am being an ass. It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it.

And you're being quite ridiculous - it's not too early to say at all. When asked in the podcast if there will be spears, Todd replied "No", saying nothing about polearms. We have seen screenshots featuring swords, claymores, maces, bows, and daggers, but zero polearms . Skyrim is a matter of months away, all things point towards there being no polearms, and that is why we must act now in order to change this.

So, you're telling me that Skyrim won't have any axes either? No, you're being ridiculous. All things point toward there being polearms, it's been said and it's been featured in the diagrams they've made for game mechanics.

And why do many of you simply assume that some form of polearms will be included in the game? As it stands now, all things point in the wrong direction - for all we know, they could be teetering on the edge of the decision as we speak! We have no way of knowing. Is it not better to err on the side of caution and keep pressuring the issue? If polearms end up being in, then fine, we would have wasted out time in this thread, big deal. But what if they're not? We would have stood idly by doing nothing!

What if this very thread was the tipping factor in there being polearms? It's possible, and nobody knows. So keep bringing attention to the issue instead of being a negative, resigned pacifist.

I like how no one has answered my question about why they don't want spears.

And, here's my reasoning about why they should be in: 1) They're simple, easy to make, and easy to use. 2) They're practical. Would you rather fight a huge dragon with a 2 foot sword, or a 6 foot spear? I'd take that extra 4 feet of breathing room. 3) They are versatile. They can be used with two hands, one handed with a shield, or even thrown.

Talk about taking something out of context. I never said or implied there wouldn't be any axes...axes aren't an issue because everyone obviously knows they will be in the game. I'm afraid if you think all things point to there being polearms you are sadly mistaken, as most people would agree with me.

Indications of no polearms: Todd: "No", there won't be spears. No polearms in screenshots. No evidence of any polearm perks or skills. NO SPEARS IN OBLIVION

Indications of there being polearms: two early concept art pieces.

If I was blind, I couldn't type or see the non-sensical babble you insist on posting. And no [censored] axes are going to be included... They've already said polearms would be included in the game. I'm certain spears will be a subsect of the polearms skill that has already been confirmed! Keep asking, you're just being a complete ass about it.

Actually the Dragre in the screenshot are holding some pole-axes, short but too long to be hafted. Doesn't mean we shouldn't push the issue though.

If a polearms skill has been confirmed, I revoke this entire thread and apologize. Now show me where it has been confirmed

I'm hoping gamesas just likes to see us squirm and they're not ruining the game and oversimplifying everything, but past experience leads me to believe the contrary.

On a positive note, what might be happening is that they're allowing us to change up our grip on weapons, just like we're allowed to dual wield as in daggerfall.

Every one keep saying polearms are confirmed, there not. No halberts, only poleaxes. Haven't you people seen the screens of the long handle axes. The ones the draugr are using. Those are the so called "polearms."

Look at the PC vs spider screen. That's a battle-axe. (short handle, two sides)
Look at the long axe used by the draugr. That's a fantasy poleaxe (long handle, one side)

Bwahaha that was a pathetic attempt at sidestepping the issue. You make all these claims of confirmed polearms, and you don't even have the will to back up your claim. Why is that? Because you're claim is false. If you want to contribute constructive argument that's fine, but please keep your blatant lies out.

Those look like long handled axes to me, ser. I wish they were polearms, but I firmly believe we're only getting Swords, Axes, Mauls, and Daggers as the melee.

That... is nothing like a poleaxe. You can see from the axe head and the way it is being held it's just a large battle axe.

In case you don't know, http://www.ringgame.net/SecondAge/weapons/poleaxe.jpg is a poleaxe.

From Wikipedia article "Poleaxe": "Both the head spike and butt spike can be used for thrusting attacks"

That is not a poleaxe at all. A poleaxe is supposed to have a pointed tip, such as to allow it to be wielded like a spear. Let's see you try to stab or spear something with that "poleaxe"

Do you really think I care what your opinion is at this point? I just posted the link to a picture you were too lazy to look up yourself. How about a 'thank you'?

Yea, definition of a poleaxe from a Wikipedia article is just "my opinion". And thanks for the link, but I've already seen it many times.

Revolver was quoting himself as saying it wasn't a poleaxe.

No, that's a Birdiche. And the Draugr are wielding "Fantasy" weapons, mind you.
