Still haven't forgotten about Spears

"Just a video game" ? No, it is much more than that. I am willing to shed blood over this.

Then pistols at dawn it is!

Or spears at dawn, if you prefer.

It's about choices, customization, and possibilities, but three of the existing four main Elder Scrolls games don't have them. They've never specifically been a staple or tradition of this game series and I don't use them. Spears are not connected to the series as they haven't been in a majority of the existing Elder Scrolls games and yes, I can be selfish. I don't use spears. I don't like spears. It's no simpler than that. I'd rather see some threads about flails. Why aren't people rioting over those? Flails appeared in more Elder Scrolls games than spears.

Honestly if flails were confirmed in, I would loosen my stance with spears. But we won't even have those either, I bet

Do i need to remind you how Morrowind was made before Oblivion and Skyrim? You can't newly add something retroactively

My point was they add things as well. Not just subtract. It's called addition by subtraction, but for you we'll call it "balance".

I acknowledge that principle of balance, but my problem is what are they really adding in to counterbalance the lack of spears? Flails? Crossbows? Halberds? Sorry, but somehow I don't think Dragon Shouts will cut it.

Better combat? Dual-wielding? Working stealth?

They were my favorite weapon in Morrowind and...I've moved on. I could really care less at this point. Spears are the least of my concerns.

No! My Mistress! We must not give up. We must stand strong. But I know there are many other things to be concerned about as well...

That's absurd. What are you even saying? That Beth will purposely omit something from a game to spite their fans who really wanted something specific in the game? Right...hopefully Skyrim will be as bad as possible then to punish me for my "whining"

I see your not very familiar with M'aiq? No, they won't remove something to get at you, they have not planned to add spears in the traditional sense and they most likely won't. But, there's a decent chance that M'aiq, or what ever easter egg they choose will make fun of people begging for spears. Just like they did with crossbows.

Forget about spears..... Crossbows please.

/sarcasm.

I really don't care either way, more choices is always nice, but I can live without spears. Now the whole no spell-creation thing, that hit home.

Of course I would have found something else to complain about, and I will continue to do so until utter perfection is reached! Why, do you not believe in continuous improvement or something? Does a mediocre "good enough" cut it for you? Well it doesn't for me. Man, you people are easy to please.

Perfection is unobtainable based purely on this statement.

Haha yeah. 30 and 50% respectively, not significant portions at all right? Screw them

I'm still at a loss as to why people dislike spears. What's wrong with them? They're the simplest weapons you can make, they allow warriors to fight stuff without getting right next to it (stuff like wooly mammoths or, say, dragons, both of which are in Skyrim), they can be used with a shield, with two hands, or as a throwing weapon ... Overall, they make sense to have in a game like Skyrim. And I haven't seen very many legitamit reasons to not have them other than, "Oh, I don't like them, so nobody should be able to have them!". And that arguement comes from some of the same people that said that argument was invalid in regards to something like fast travel. Well, you know what, people? If you don't like them, DON'T USE THEM!!! But don't take away our fun!

Quite correct. I am a rational being, I know perfection is a purely theoretical construct. And as arbitrary as the standards may be, they are standards nonetheless! I think that if you preform a taylor series expansion around the initial point of mediocrity, you will discover the allowable error is only so big. And, though it is forever out of reach, is it not human nature to strive for perfection in its impossibility?

Well I loved spears in Morrowind but with all the new work being put into combat, not all things could be included. Think about it. It is new animations, new programing for the actual mechanics for them, not to mention setting up the different configurations for two handed, with shields, and with magic. Would love to see them but realistically we probably won't.

I doubt people voted no because they honestly don't want spears in the game. They just want people who want spears in the game to shut up about it already.

That sounds familiar...

but even in Final Fantasy XII, I don't use spears. I'm (meaning my preferred character, which is currently Basch) partial to swords in that game, as well. Balthier is the pole-arm wielder.

But that ruins the whole point of the poll, doesn't it? It's basically people saying, "Screw you!" to people who happen to really want a particular feature.

I usually go with swords in all my games, but the Zodiac Spear is pretty sweet. I used it my last playthrough. You have to avoid opening four specific chests though, or the spear won't spawn. It can be found in the Necrohol of Nabudis.

Yep. I'm fine with spears, but this obsession with spears (and crossbows, throwing stars, flails, nunchucks, etc) is driving me crazy. I would prefer a small amount of weapons that are balanced properly and are fun than a bunch of weapons that are boring.
