So, still invisible holstered weapons...

Post » Fri Feb 12, 2016 9:11 am

Personally this is a big letdown, ignoring the lack of content that this game is suffering. Pardon my little rant, I'm not here to troll. I'm just suffering a bitter delusion for what I was expecting from F4 and what turned out during my gameplay experience.

"Bitter Delusion" over not seeing a holstered weapon?

I wish they'd bring back visible weapons. I keep wondering where I'm stuffing them and then I remember that I really don't want to know, especially for my big guns.

Yeah I don't really get what the big deal is about this. With the new modding system it would have taken a lot of work to get holstered weapons right. I'm glad they obviously made the decision to use that time elsewhere.

Why would you expect visible, holstered weapons to be there if they were never mentioned in the patch notes to begin with? The patch notes had been out since the PC beta test. So far they are just trying to make the game run better, and fix things that were actual glitches/bugs. Then, once that's fixed, they can focus on superficial things that don't impact gameplay.

Yep. De gustibus non disputandum est.

For me it kills the "suspension of disbelief", because I don't see a good reason to make the holstered weapons invisible. In my humble opinion, it just svcks, but that doesn't mean you have to agree with me at all.

If you're satisfied, so be it. I'm glad for you.

Letdown?

Surely holstered weapons in a game where there is layered armor, power armor and body sizes seems rather unlikely.

I think your expectations are impractical.

There, I trust that supplies a 'good reason'...

I want to see everything I have equipped. Characters in Beth games should look like Mount & Blade characters.

I don't see why they don't simply assign ~ five weapon slots to the skeleton models. 1 - weapon over the shoulder, 2 - weapon on the back, 3+4 - sidearm / melee weapon on each hip, 5 - slot for a small weapon on your boot.

It is not that easy when you add in different types of armors and over armor along with different mods for weapons you are going to have either clipping or empty spaces between the weapon and clothing. The work around could be a generic look for weapons and have a holster/harness for the weapon so you might just see a stock/grip of the weapon.

Well in Skyrim for example, weapons have an "offset" value, which changes the location of your weapon depending on how bulky your armor is. It's not some impossible, never done before in history feature. See, in future there will be a great mod by some talented modder that does add this. I'll bet on it.

That's basically what a modded skyrim can do right now. It's not impossible and honestly I pick some cliping in some armor variations over Fallout 4's (non) solution anyday.

P.S it actually can have a gameplay impact as well, because you don't know a NPC's equiped weapon before you agro him/her. Although they designed Fallout 4 in a way that when a NPC can potentially get bostile to you, he generaly has his weapon out before hand but still...

Weapons clipped when you wore Ranger Combat Armor in NV. No big deal. Modders even fixed it.

For now, anyway, my F4 copy is taking dust in the "wasted money scaffold". And not just because of that weapon problem, as I said in the opening post.

This is far more complicated then it can be made to sound. Remember that you can have multiple layers of clothing and your body size is fully adjustable. Do you know how hard it would be to work around these things and still have decent looking holstered weapons? The clipping issues would get bad.

If you're referring to the patch specifically, if you were expecting this then it's your fault. The notes for the patch have been available for a good while now. We knew what was going to be in it.

Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra.

Your words are far too strong for such a small problem. Your expectations are not grounded in fact. It was never even implied that such non-gameplay related, superficial and cosmetic, change was ever nor will be forthcoming. I find your level of dismay disingenuous.

You must be bitterly disappointed a lot. I'm sad for you.

Very simple. Attach the mount points to the clothing mesh, instead. Time consuming, but universal. Or, have them be "limbs" protruding from the character model (undrawn, of course). Based on a specific value associated with each armor, the limb reaches out further.

Many possible ways. Not hard. Just time-consuming. It's already been done several different ways in Skyrim. In fact, the vanilla version has the console command to make all equipped weapons visible. It's just really broken. Seems even Bethesda played around with it.

I wish these were back too, I suspect it was removed due to an animation problem of removing a weapon/reaching behind the back in power armour, probably tons of clipping. Its one of those things that really added to the feel though.

My level of dismay is absolutely sincere, I'm not here to troll with fake reasons and accusations, and I'm really disappointed. It didn't come all at once, but through hours of gameplay. Maybe I've been unclear on the rest of details that brought down F4 to my "perception". I found some quests extremely repetitive, others even haunting (Minutemen anyone?). I've found the game lacking of interesting quests, surprises, interesting npcs, groups and factions. I wrote here in this forum a personal review of the game, that was already "mixed", with both good and bad impressions, but it's hard to find it now, because more than a month has passed. I left the game more or less a month ago, and I was hoping for some adjustements, visible holstered weapons included, even if they can be considered just a mere aesthetical detail. I don't think dlcs will improve my experience, since I've found every bethesda DLC for Fallout 3 and even Skyrim (I simply adore that game!) disappointing.

Yes, there are many possible ways to do it. Nobody's suggesting that it can't be done. But as you say, it is very time consuming. They have to pick where their time is best allocated, and visible holstered weapons apparently didn't make the cut.

- it's a terrible decision to make weapons invisible

- , it's a shame to have a huge customize option for weapons just to make them disappear

- i'd take a little bit of clipping if it means i can see the weapons

While I understand that patching something like this in post-launch would be difficult, I have to question why this mechanic was absent in the first place. This feature was present in Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Skyrim, all on a seventh-generation console, but is bizarrely absent in their first game for eighth-generation consoles.

The last game they released without visible holstered weapons before this was TES III: Morrowind in 2002. It doesn't bother me immensely, but it's a strange omission.
