after watching this vid i hear richard ham say: "so your friends can jump right in and all of a sudden its 8 player co-op but then complete strangers come in and their playing as the enemy" so i need to have my friends playing with me to have strangers as the enemy? or just if your not on my friends list then your the enemy? what if my friend wants to be the enemy? (sry 4 all the questions) what if im playing as resistance and a stranger is resistance is he on my team or does he get a default security? again sry just really confuzed on this subject

The first question answers all.

Basically the maps stay the same no matter if you play Singleplayer, Multiplayer or Co-op. If you play singleplayer, your friends can jump in and join. If you play multiplayer you play the same maps, but with other people. You don't have to play with friends, it's optional.
The Multiplayer aspect is basically the story, you just play with and against other players. You can compare the multiplayer with any objective based multiplayer, but with the addition of a Story throughout the maps.

I've been curious about matchmaking. Can you actually have 8 vs. 8 matches that aren't part of the story, or is everything tied into the campaign mode?
Because honestly, I like playing a game's campaign mode by myself once (I love the story of any game, and I can't handle my friends constantly trying to talk with me while I'm playing the campaign) then I work myself into matchmaking. But if matchmaking's the same thing, I dunno what I'll do about it exactly.

EDIT:
Oh so it all has to do with campaign, but one mode gives you the cinematics and the other doesn't. Alrighty then.

You can play in random order and you can skip the cinematics. When playing online, the cinematics will feature the characters of the different people.

Hmmm... I see...
I guess I'll have to see if I want to play with my friends or not for the story mode.

You'd have to do multiplayer to get strangers to play with you, or on the other side.

Yes, if you play the story, friends can jump in at any time to complete it together. Even if they already played the story or if they didn't even complete it at all. Let's say you completed mission 3 and your friend is playing mission 6, then you'll be able to jump in, play level 6 with him and then go back to mission 4 in your own campaign. You don't need to play the story in order, but if you chose to do so, you have to complete a map in order to advance to the following one. (Compare Singleplayer to any Singleplayer.)

When you're playing campaign mode online, you start with 7 friends or strangers and play against other teams of players who are doing the opposite campaign. The team that wins advances to the next mission.

What happens to the team that loses? Are the matched up with another opposing team for that same mission?

Indeed.

Indubitably.
Anyway, thanks for that. Everything makes a lot more sense now.

A bit, but if my assumption is right, then they should release something today. This is an assumption as they started making new dev diaries and last time they did, they released one thing every week.
