I remember when I first read an article about the game Daggerfall some time before it was released, getting real excited about the plan to allow people with characters from Arena to import them into Daggerfall. I had a level 21 Khajiit Ranger with a full suit of ebony and a few artifacts and thought it would be really cool to be able to keep playing my same character in the next game. Of course that didn't work out and the feature wasn't in the game when it was released. I decided, however, that I wouldn't let that stop me, so I got a character editor and re-created my Arena character in Daggerfall. That was easy to do since they made the faces in Daggerfall match the ones in Arena, probably because they originally did intend to let people import, and also because Daggerfall only takes place about 20 years after Arena, so my character would only be in her low 40s.(I picked a female character in Arena because I thought the males were all kind of dorky looking) Morrowind and Oblivion were bigger challenges, though because Bethesda quit using Ohmes Khajiits so I had to mod them into both of those games. Also my character would be pushing 60 when the Emperor was assassinated, so I came up with a backstory I thought would make it all work and I am having fun with it still.
In my story, when the Emperor named my character "Eternal Champion" he actually placed an enchantment on her so that she would always be there to defend the people of Tamriel. What happens is that she doesn't age, but the price is she kind of goes dormant during times of peace and then awakens in times of need and takes action to protect the people of Tamriel. I haven't needed to mod my stats or gear after Daggerfall, because having awoken from a suspended state explains why she starts out weak and having no skills at the beginning of each game. I always play that she doesn't remember anything at the start and then by the time she gets to level 20 or so it has all come back to her. This worked out especially well with Oblivion, where the Emperor sees her in the cell where she shouldn't be at the beginning of the game and of course knows and trusts her right away even though he knows she doesn't remember him. He of course knows what is going on. I haven't been able to mod in an Ohmes Khajiit to Skyrim yet, but I made a Bosmer with similar face paint and it works due to the fact that most people mistake Ohmes Khajiits for Bosmer anyway. The only problem with Skyrim was that the enchantment was placed on her by a Septim and the Septim empire no longer exists, but Talos also is a Septim, so it was he that awoke her in this case, (although there is still the question of why Alduin awoke dragon blood in her, but I think future DLCs may deal with this) Anyway, having her now working as an eternal agent of Talos will work for games to come I hope.
It is kind of a hassle at times but has provided me with a character I have been able to keep going for years who has a rich and lengthy history and I have a lot of fun with it. Just wondering if others have made a history for their characters and how they incorporate it into ES lore.
