Still reserves 8GB RAM on 8GB RAM computers

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 7:09 pm

It still seems to try to reserve 8GB of RAM on computers that only have 8GB. This is an impossible task that forces the game to use the Swap File because Windows needs RAM to operate correctly and people tend to have at least a handful of background processes going on as well.

Yes, his post was what led me to check it out for myself. I've confirmed his findings via the Resource Monitor application that is accessed via Task Manager when looking at Memory statistics in Task Manager (Blue link at bottom of window for Resource Monitor).

Combine:

to get the combined total amount of RAM the game is reserving.

I have 16gb System ram too so its not a problem for this machine, but I can see it being a problem for people who bought a machine going by the published system requirements on steam http://store.steampowered.com/app/377160/

System Requirements

  • MINIMUM:
    • OS: Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)

    • Processor: Intel Core i5-2300 2.8 GHz/AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0 GHz or equivalent

    • Memory: 8 GB RAM

    • Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 550 Ti 2GB/AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB or equivalent

    • Hard Drive: 30 GB available space

  • RECOMMENDED:
    • OS: Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)

    • Processor: Intel Core i7 4790 3.6 GHz/AMD FX-9590 4.7 GHz or equivalent

    • Memory: 8 GB RAM

    • Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 780 3GB/AMD Radeon R9 290X 4GB or equivalent

    • Hard Drive: 30 GB available space

My resource monitor after playing the game 20 mins or so, building my base up and assigning jobs.

I have G.Skill Ripjaws Z 16 GB 1866 RAM.

Is this combined 8,715,311 KB approx? Seems high man.

My GPU is 2GB with Ultra textures, could that be causing more data to be stored in RAM? Gameplay is fine, locked 50fps constantly.

Frak man, it doesn't MATTER if it's in use.

If you RESERVE 8GB of RAM, then the system can't allocate it for other things. IE needing to constantly buffer with page usage.

Memory allocation 101

Most of the 'reserve' in not locked for Fallout 4 only.
