I am still of the opinion that morrowind was the best written TES game...... And still had most of it's RPG flavor.
Beth has a habit of playing pretty fast and loose with their own lore.....

^this VATS would be a nightmare not to mention the about resources that shuffling data between two users would take away from game. consoles have limited specs as well . BGS likes to push Ram into the dirt everytime they make a game.
also lag stuttering as well frame stuttering no thanks .
I'd personally like it, although I am very much a single player game kind of guy who plays to be immersed in the world, I'd like to share that intimate experience with a few choice people. I think a simple co-op would be acceptable, maybe as a DLC, but I understand how it could cause a lot of problems with balancing. Although it would be very fun to try to finish missions together, you could split up and make strategies together. A time limit on the success of some missions would be cool too.
If they could do it without breaking the game and causing a lot of bugs I'm sure most people would like it, provided they had a friend they could trust in their world, which I realize is rare.
Eh, you misspelled "vehemently opposed" there.
edit: and yeah - add me to the list of people who're sick of the current "everything needs multiplayer!" trend in gaming. No. No it doesn't.
(and honestly, Fallout seems like one of the least fitting games for it.... the whole "you, alone, against the wasteland" vibe just doesn't work with MP. Lone Wanderer. Sole Survivor. I'm just not feeling "group" here.)
Any type of multiplayer component including co-op will cause a lot of problems for PC gamers who are modders and PC gamers who are both modders and programmers.
Modding the PC version of Fallout 4 would be a huge problem. Especially for ANTI-CHEAT systems to ban you if you use a wrong mod in multiplayer that gives you infinite health or something like that.
Look at Rockstar Games. So many PC gamers are getting banned for using mods for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V Online, because they forget to turn the mods off when they go online. Thankfully a mod that disables the script now exists.
On topic...I've seen co-op done well, and not so well. I've seen it work, and I've seen it fail.
Personally..Fallout is one of those games where I'd rather it just be me and not the jerks I play games with.
Kinda ruins my flow.
I can always count on Bethesda to give me a single-player experience lasting 150+ hours of fun, where most single player games go for maybe 15-20, 40 or so at the upper range. If I want multi-player, I've countless options. If I want single-player? I don't have many options. Every time people like OP suggest multi-player for these wonderful games, I can't help but worry a little. One day Bethesda might listen to one of you people, and it's very likely that they'll kill the magic of it all. Something about their games works just so, and I don't want that lost.
I'm not talking about a Grand Theft Auto Online type system. I'm talking about a direct connection to just one other player you know. An admittedly bad example would be something like Fable 2 where your friend could join you as a henchman for CO-OP play. I don't want an experience any bigger than 2, maybe 4 people, it would have to be set up manually so the studio wouldn't have to interfere or worry about cheaters. But yes, I understand the problems it would cause but it is one of the most successful video games If they really wanted to they could even outsource a group to do it and if they spent enough time and money it would be feasible and fun!
There would be much wailing and gnashing of teeth from me, the addition of multiplayer to a SP game has never been a good thing for me.
I MIGHT be willing to accept non-single player Fallout when the sun goes nova. Check back with me then.
I was not just talking about Grand Theft Auto 5's Online. I explained why co-op is also not a good idea for Fallout 4 to have. If you read my comment carefully you would of seen my explanation.
Not every game has to have multiplayer just for the sake of multiplayer...
Multiplayer has no place in Fallout. Period. Or TES in my honest opinion but DEFINITELY no place in Fallout.
Co-op comes up as a topic frequently, but I think it's a misconception to think that somehow the game will be just as good as single player. It takes BGS several years just to build one of their single player games. Looking at Fallout 4, we're looking at 4 years since Skyrim released. To do co-op the game would have to be designed with certain co-op specs in mind, and balancing it out would be a serious challenge given how difficult it is already. We'd be lucky to see a game 1/2 the size of their single player model, all for the pleasure of laughing it up with your friends on the other controller. Not a bad thing, but it would no longer be the personal experience (private sometimes) that the current concept offers.
I could see Bethesda Game Studios eventually trying it out, but probably with another lead developer and dev team working more autonomously. And if they were to build another team, I'd really rather they just went with a new single player IP and came up with a rotation that allowed them to release a new game every two years instead of every four.
Main problem with multiplayer in an TES / Fallout game, is how the game is focused around the player in an persistent world.
Its not designed too have two players, this will pretty much require rewriting the engine from bottom up, you need to keep track of all the junk and synchronize between both computers.
Worse engine is not designed to have players at two positions at once, lots of stuff going on in the background.
NPC moving around do it in the background, this can be seen in Skyrim in a quest involving the Khajiit caravans. You can see them move on the map.
Yep, it would likely require either another engine entirely, or a super major overhaul of creation. But then again, a lot of people think the current one is a dinosaur....
They destroyed Elder Scrolls by making an MMO of it and now people want them to do the same with Fallout??? :/
*checks back in thread*
*sees most people are still opposed to MP of any kind in Fallout games*
*nods head and smiles*
*leaves satisfied*
They (the devs of Fallout/Elder Scrolls, yes?) don't made a MMO. It was done by another company (Zenimax Online)
But Todd Howard clearly saids that Fallout is and should be a singleplayer game only.
I am so pleased there is 0% multiplayer
There are a ton of other games that allow co-op. I am pleased Beth has not tried to ram a feature in that is not needed.
Long live the single player rpg
ahem, could you please just F*@#$*@@**!!&&*#$*@$(*$&*#Q&*@#*($@*(*()@)!#. Honestly, I don't want this game ruined. Good thing Bethseda doesn't listen to crap like this.
This exact justification has been made before for game series that did not (then did) have multiplayer.
Take Mass Effect 3 as the obvious example of a game where the multiplayer was arguably better than the single player game.
IF Bethesda introduce a multiplayer into their game at some point then I think three conditions will need to have been met:
So. No sign of it in Fallout 4.
With Elder Scrolls Online, I see no likelihood of a multiplayer component in Elder Scrolls VI.
So, chances of multiplayer in a Bethesda game this decade is pretty much nil, in my opinion.
It would be possible in a game from an associated or partner company.
I'm in agreement with the majority here; there's literally hundreds of fantastic multiplayer experiences out there, including RPG's. Why do you insist on wanting to ruin one of the few dedicated singleplayer experiences? I understand the market majority of multiplayer users, but there's still millions of us who never step foot online. We don't want it. We don't need it. Quite frankly I think it's selfish to call for it when it comes to Bethesda games. Anyone who's actually played a Bethesda game or been involved in the community of a Bethesda game should know who Bethesda are, what they do, and who they do it for. Asking for them to deviate from that is not only against the community that Bethesda support, it wouldn't make business sense either; why compete in an already bloated market when you're already practically monopolising another?
its amazing how collective hatred of something can bring a forum together
if it was added in u can say good by to vats and theyd have to cut stuff just to add it becose its not a simpel thing to add so if we got it wed prob lose some thin like player setelments or a npc city or some thin im glad they dont wast ther time on it
Did I?
Todd Howard: The two most requested features we get are dragons and multiplayer. We got one of them this time! (http://www.ign.com/articles/2011/03/31/the-elder-scrolls-evolved-whats-new-in-skyrim?page=2)
It's important to keep in mind that this forums only represent a minority of the people who play Bethesda games: a tiny, much better informed, and much more hardcoe minority. It stands to reason that the priorities and preferences of such minority are going to differ from those shared by the general audience.
Personally I'd love LAN co-op. Both Skyrim and Fallout 3 have plenty of NPC companions that you can choose to adventure with. If instead of a limited AI I could take a friend with me and complete the same single-player quests and dungeons together, well, in my opinion that would be awesome.
