Still the same old armors?

Post » Sat Jul 02, 2011 10:19 pm

I know that we have seen some different armors in videos and whatnot, but are the same armors still going to be ranked the same. I know they'll probably be revamped in look, but will Daedric/Glass still be the best?

We saw elven armor in the demo, so this is where the concern came from.

I'm going to be playing a Guardian (Heavy armor, blades, shield, restoration, etc) and I want to have the choice between several different armor sets at endgame, not just be stuck with Daedric.

Oblivion was very limited in armor. There was a set armor for your level and type, and that was it.

Morrowind was better than OB, it had more variety, but due to the time the game was made, the armors all look a little... weird.

At endgame, I want my guardian to have choices. Maybe between Daedric, Dragon Bone, Ayleid Plate, etc.

I know, I could use armor thats weaker, but I can't do that. Don't know why, never have been able to. (thats why I no longer have my 100% Chameleon suit, its to tempting.)

Armor class always ended up becoming irrelephant for my characters in Oblivion and Morrowind, so I just went with what I thought looked the most aesthetically pleasing.
It would be nice to have to have a perk to be able to wear certain tiers of armor or something, so I wasn't just wearing whatever.

I hope they have better armor then deadric this time, I would prefer to see a much shinier or brighter set, it kind of ruins the game for people who play as good characters to have to wear demon lordish looking armor.

Because I like how it looks?
Because I play a character that wouldnt wear daedric armour for religious reasons? (Seeing as how its made an all.)

Elder scrolls is I think the wrong sort of game to powergame, always going for 'the best stuff.'
I mean you can, but its hardly as rewarding as roleplaying the game.

I always thought Daedric Armor looked like crap. I didn't like it at all, so I stuck to my favorite armor set, Ebony. It may not protect me as well, but I like it better and I look better. I generally will take the more aesthetically pleasing weapon/armor over the most powerful weapon/armor. :tops:

As a hopeless optimist for Skyrim, I hope that the armors are more than just different damage thresholds: but different play-styles.

I would like it if Light Armor allowed players to maneuver to a greater degree in combat: compensating for less protection with tumbling out of the way, always attacking faster, and sprinting well.

Heavy Armor could just be the generic stand in fight armor: with perhaps some special abilities of its own like tackling an enemy with momentum.

Unarmored could be the most nimble of all: allowing very fast attacks and weapon switching as well as a bonus to sneaking and the ability to hide weapons to pull them on unsuspecting targets for an any-time free critical hit.

I am really against the idea of armor tiers, and I would prefer to see armors even within a type have such special advantages and disadvantages.

(Perhaps Deadric armor slows down your attacks less, Dwarven armor slows it down more but is tough as nails, Iron has less of the downsides and strengths of Heavy armor than others, ect.)

This, but I doubt it'll happen in Skyrim, perhaps in the next TES installment.

Probably the same but since Beth is taking a Fallout 3 approach, you may be able to find stuff out in the wild that you would't have found in Oblivion at low levels. I don't know if Daedric will suddenly pop up but it's certainly possible as long as it's rare.

Very true: but for now, I can be an unrealistic optimist.

I hope Glass Armor looks like it did with Morrowind rather than Oblivion

Otherwise, i'll take the coolest looking armor

My character is a Ranger, a Tracker, a Hunter, a Thief.
So he'll take the best :hubbahubba:

I'm hoping that the concept of armor works something like the way fallout did, except that with the crafting system you can improve the armor set you like over time by adding extra pieces like pauldrons, chainmail underlays and plating to specific parts of the armor.

Yeah....I used the imperial dragon stuff.... Total garbage but it looked so awesome.

Maybe they could add some form of a color editing? It'll add -some- variety.

I hope if they HAVE to level the damn armour - and I sincerely hope they don't - then they'll at least have some NPCs wearing full sets, and not bits and pieces. At certain levels in Oblivion you could find all the cuirasses and greaves you wanted, but hardly any boots, gauntlets or helms.

I'd like to see some more armours, too. Maybe dragon scale (heavy) and dragon hide (light)?

I also hope that the glass armour returns to the spiky, angular form of Morrowind, and not the snot-like drips of Oblivion. The helm looked like a Lego hairpiece.

irrelephant

Yeah, they'll probably be the same names, but they sure look different, I mean the elven and iron armors are completely different than they were in OB.

I'd personally like some more mage themed armor/clothing than just the generic robes that were in Oblivion.

I'm pretty hopeful for some basic customization at least with Smithing. But with all the ore types, especially if they can combine, there may be a wider spread of options. There is lore for ice armor too, that would be pretty cool. Zing!

Whenever I use heavy armor I try to stay away from Daedric. It's so damned heavy! In Morrowind you had to use strength or feather spells to wear it D: I don't remember how heavy it was in Oblivion, but it still limited what you could carry.

I'm guessing that yes, Daedric armor is the best non-artifact heavy armor, and glass armor is the best for light (Obviously, artifacts can be exempt from the usual armor progression and therefore there might be ones with stronger base stats.) Though there may be types of armor we didn't see in Oblivion, and some times of armor that were in Oblivion may not be in Skyrim, after all, Oblivion didn't have all 5he same types of armor that Morrowind had (chitin armor wasn't in Oblivion, for example, but mithril armor did not show up in Morrowind.) There's no reason to assume that this won't hold true in Skyrim.

Though I'm hoping for a bit more choice amongst different armors of the same "level" myself, Daedric armor has always bveen the strongest armor in Tamriel, and it can stay that way, but it doesn't mean we can't have other comparable armors, they don't have to have the exact same stats in every way, but they could have advantages in one area to make up for disadvantages in others. Glass may offer the best protection of any light armor, for example, but we could have a slightly weaker alternative that's easief to sneak in, or can hold greater enchantments. After all, not everyone who uses light armor and wants to be protected necessarily wants to wear a suit of shiny green volcanic glass, if you're a thief, something less flashy would seem much more appropriate, but past games never really provided that option, it was either wear the best whether it suits you or not, or suffer with inferior equipment.

You know, I really hope that's not the case. Daedric looks so ugly... so demonic. It doesn't suit my character at all and I can only hope something similar to Pelinal's armor set shows up in the game's artifacts.

Full Daedric in Morrowind with one helm was 309 units. It was 162 in Oblivion.

I'd be happy with it at Oblivion's weight. It's supposed to be heavy armor, after all.
