Stimpacks insanely unbalanced?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 6:24 pm

*Possible spoilers*

Watching a few of the leaked videos and judging off the perk tree I have came to the realization that Stimpacks appear to be ridiculously overpowered.

If you look at the perks 1 stim heals 40%, 60% 80% 100% this is a huge amount of healing.

I thought perhaps this would be balanced out by the fact stims are very rare. But apparently that is wrong also, my the guys playing are picking up Stimpacks like candy.

How is this balanced?

Well, from what we know, food is taking a backseat, because evidently healing outside of combat slows things down. It is inevitable.

Should probably use spoiler tags on your post considering that you forgot them in the title.. On topic:

Spoiler
It isn't balanced.. At all.. It just plays into the inability to fail in a Bethesda game. :sadvaultboy: I would say maybe survival mode makes them rarer, but I also doubt that

Bethesda games have always pretty much been as hard as you make them yourself.

So continuing on from Fallout 3 where we just spam the stimpack hot key I guess.

There's a animation involved that takes a few seconds to jam a stim into you. It also takes a few seconds to take effect, healing takes place over time.

What is this supposed to mean? Healing 100% of your hp has nothing to do with your difficulty.

I assume that the percentage meants how usefull your healing froma stimpack.

Example perk 1 your only healing yourself 40% out the 100% effectivnes of the stimpack.

Yeah I think this is what is means. Say stimpacks replenish 30 hp from the start, an 100% increase will be 60 hp healed.

Not from the videos. 1 Stimpack heals a huge amout of hp.

Text from game.

Rank 1: Is there a doctor in the house? Stimpaks restore 40% of lost health, and RadAway removes 40% of radiation.

I hope it's just an issue of poor wording, where stimpacks don't heal a percentage of lost or max health but rather it's a percentage of a stimpack's maximum effectiveness regardless of one's health like in past games.

They were worse in Fo3, instant health and spammable. This one has a animation and is over time.

Does Stimpack's heal instantly or is it over time? If it's over a period of time then it wouldn't really matter since it would be harder to use them in combat.

There's a whole animation to them now, and they also heal over time ontop of that. From the leaked gameplay footage id say it takes about 6-8 seconds to get the full healing out of one.

But we are talking about the possibility of a "SINGLE" stim completely healing your hp from 0 to full.

The vid I saw,the person only healed certain amount with one stimpack.

Also you have take in account how much HP of your life based on endurance.

Also we don't know whats the full effectiveness of a stimpack in FO4 wheather be the same amount as in FO3 or NV as in 30HP per stimpack or more.

If you get to zero health you're dead anyways.
If you have 1 HP and you use a stimpak in combat you'll have to find a safe place to use it first, you'll have to go through the animation, and then you'll have to pray you don't get hit again before the healing is finished.
Enemies will probably have decent DPS so if you use one while you're still being shot at you'll probably end up dying before it heals you completely. So I think there's gonna be more strategy involved instead of spamming a hot key and getting instant health like in 3 and NV.

Basically you can't really judge it for better or worse until you get to experience firsthand. Everything I said could be wrong as well, we just have no sure way of knowing.

but over time and unstackable like in NV, meaning you can still get killed during it.

Unlike Fo3 where u can just spam the button and be immortal.

That makes no sense... Spam or not these heal a ridiculous amount. Pointing out that some other mechanic was poor does not somehow make this good.

I didn't play new vegas on casual mode so your point really doesn't mean anything.

For anyone worried about this, there are two factors that prevent stimpaks from being too OP in 4. The first is the time taken to heal, during which you will be left open and vulnerable. If this happens whilst you're being attacked, you will lose additional health the same as if you were standing idle. The second is the level requirements for ranks 2-4 of the perk. By the time you unlock rank 4, most enemies will be a lot more powerful, and therefore a lot more dangerous.
