Stimpaks and Weapons

Post » Fri Apr 01, 2011 10:01 pm

Okay, I'm having a problem..

Ever since I've hit level 15 on the Xbox 360, I've been finding myself low on Stimpaks.
Ammo, I'm fine with, but finding the right gun can prove to be a challenge, as I am constantly low on Stimpaks..

Now, I use the Xuanlong Assault Rifle, so I need Chinese Assault Rifles. Any idea on how to get a few?
Stimpaks; Running low on these constantly, and I need some if I am to survive in the Wastes

Post a reply below telling me how to acquire more.

Trade power armor, laser/plasma pistols and rifles and all that jazz to Protector Casdin at Fort Independence and your stimpak shortage will be solved.
For Chinese Assault Rifles, Flak and Shrapnel should sometimes sell one as should Lucky Harith. They're pretty common on Talon Company so you should be able to pick some up at their ambush points and Fort Bannister. If you haven't cleared out Mama Dolce's in Arlington yet, you'll get a bunch of CARs there.

Supermutants often carry chinese assault rifles. Go clear up the Mall once in a while and you will have plenty all the time.

You can trade scrap metal for stimpaks with Winthrop in Underworld (five scrap per stimpak). Doc Hoff and Cindy Cantelli in Rivet City are the most reliable merchants for buying stimpaks, but almost all of them have at least a few. You can also buy them from the doctors in Megaton, Rivet City, Underworld, Paradise Falls (if you're on good terms with the slavers), etc.

Other than that, make sure you hit all the first aid boxes in the places you explore, and start using food sources that you scrounge to regain health. Sure, you take rads and the health boosts are much smaller, but you will conserve stims if you just need to top off your health a bit. And you can always get a doc to remove the rads later (or buy the infirmary for your house). Above all else, find beds and grab some sleep whenever you can - even an hour's nap will fully restore your health and heal all your limbs.

I try to avoid using stimpaks as much as possible - generally, I only use them in a big battle when my health gets critically low (below 25% or so, maybe 50% if I'm facing an Overlord or something). As a result, I usually have tons of them. My Level 30 character (Normal) has almost 500 of them, and my Level 15 one (Hard) has almost 100.

If you are running out of Stimpaks you must be running gung-ho into every fight and using Stimpaks on hotkey to survive. Stop doing that.

Don't hot key Stimpaks - Besides making the game far too easy, it promotes sloppy gun battle skills and engagements. Plan your attacks better and you won't be using Stimpaks left and right.
Only use Stimpaks to heal crippled limbs and 1 or 2 at the end of battles (when very low on health). Use purified water and other high HP food items to heal in the field.

I'm not trying to tell you how to play (it wouldn't do any good), but only some suggestions from someone that always has a huge surplus of Stimpaks....I've NEVER bought one.

CARs can be bought from F&S's and Underworld Outfitters (Tulip) on a fairly regular basis at your level, and both Seagrave Holmes and Moira will occasionally have one. Pretty much every merchant sells stimpacks, and they are in almost all First Aid Boxes. There is also the aforementioned trade with Winthrop in Underworld (ask him if you can help out in order to activate the exchange, rate is fixed) for yet more stimpacks, and he also offers anti-rad meds (same 5:1 rate).

If you have Point Lookout installed, you might consider the alternative method of using Punga Fruit: you get less healing per item, however they also reduce your rad count. They are 1 WGT each, in case that matters. I have a character that does this, and as a side benefit it means less stuff turned in for caps.

I do have them hot keyed, and I will stop that.

I have a few Aqua Puras (Uninfected) that I can use in the field.. (Also, there are crates of that stuff at the Citadel.)

You don't need to even start PL to get the fruit, they are sold by food merchants and doctors once PL is installed. PL is the best source for them in terms of sheer number available, however the plants don't respawn.

Oh, okay.

Are they sold by all food vendors, or just a few?
I haven't seen any in my gameplay.

Do the Reilly's Rangers rescue if you haven't done that quest yet. On you way to them, you'll go through Our Lady of Hope Hospital which has a LOT of first aid boxes and lots of stim-packs and other assorted chems.

Also, save all the Nuka-Colas to convert into Ice cold ones in your Megaton/Tenpenny house. Mirelurks are also a good source of food items, particularly the softshell mirelurk meat.

I do NOT recommend this if you like making nuka grenades. With BS you can turn ten nuka colas into a Quantum if you choose the perk.

All food vendors sell them, and I always find a few at both Gary's Galley (RC) and The Brass Lantern (MT). Doc Hoff also sells them, if you can catch him. Not sure if other doctors do, since they aren't chems, although I haven't really checked.

EDIT: Mr. GARY is right, if you want to convert Nukas to Quantums do NOT put them in the fridge since Ice Colds are NOT included in the script for Quantum Chemist. If one is on a PC it's a simple edit of adding one line to said script, in which case the preceding warning does not necessarily apply.

There are HUNDREDS of Nuka Cola's in the game, so there really shouldn't be a major issue with splitting them up between Ice Colds for healing and saving regulars for Quantums for when you get the perk. That late in the game, Quantums really shouldn't be your limiting factor in making Nukanades....Turpintine will be.

But the warning is quite valid....don't go tossing all your Nuka Colas into the machine as there is a use for regular Nukas later in the game....

also, I have 10000+ caps, so I'm fine with buying weapons and stimpaks.

Bro, you have to give me a call(or a mail so to speak) i have played over 700+ hours in one game, found EVERY weapon, armor, most skill books, ect., i can tell you tons of ways to stock up on stimpaks, and obtain rifles to repair your xuanlong assault rifles. I currently carry the following weapons: THE 'VENGEANCE' GATLING LASER, THE 'EUGENE' MINI-GUN, THE 'TERRIBLE' SHOTGUN, THE 'A3-21' PLASMA RIFLE, COL. AUTUMNS RAPID FIRE LASER PISTOL(yes i found a way past the force field, 'obtained' col. autumn's pistol, left and took care of some other missions, and returned to finish the game) THE 'VICTORY' SNIPER RIFLE, THE 'WAZER' RIFLE(yes wazer, not lazer) and of course THE 'XUANLONG' ASSAULT RIFLE. I am telling you this because for each of these weapons, i have about 200-300 of their 'normal' versions at my megaton home to use as repairs, and i have about 2000 stimpaks with me always, and if you ever want to find out how you can make stimpaks and addiction to chems a lot less worrisome, by all means if you ever wish to chat about fallout3. I would tell you now, but i do not want to ruin things for you. But regarding your stimpak shortage, here are a few things you can do: RIVET CITY has a place in the market called "A QUICK FIX' and she always has stimpaks and chems to sell, but if you have the caps, and want to stock up, exit the market to the outside of rivet city, and use your fast time accelerator by 24 hours 3 times. then go back inside, and she will have new stimpaks and chems for you. also, if you do not mind the karma loss(i don't) find her quarters, and if you have enough lockpick skill, there are tons of stimpaks and chems all over her room, just make sure you are not caught! Also if you have found 'UNDERWORLD' where the ghouls live, there is a guy named WINTHROP(a ghoul actually) and you can start a conversation with him, and he says he needs scrap metal, and for every 5 you bring him, he will give you a stimpak, and TRUST ME, there are a lot of scrap metal in the game. outside of UNDERWORLD, there are a ton of mutant masters with CHINESE ASSAULT RIFLES, and once you deal with them, you could say, fast travel somewhere, advance time by 3 days, and go back, and they will be there again for you to get and store more for repairs on the XUANLONG. there is so many more things i could tell you, but i do not wish to spoil it for you, but if you ever have a question, (not about mods and apps because when it comes to that, i have the same knowledge of a drunken 5 year old lol) about the game itself, big or small, i will always give you an answer in detail. But a piece of advice: any level you are at, the ALIEN BLASTER is just devastating, and where you find it, there is alot of ammo for it, one hit usually vaporizes your target, and until you get your REPAIR skill up to 100, or it's highest, MOIRA in megaton seems to possess the highest repair skill of the lot of them, (except for the traveling caravans, but you may have killed them i do not know lol lol) and if you have not taken the COMPREHENSION perk, take it a.s.a.p., as it will increase your skill by 2 instead of 1 for every skill book you find and read.
Either way, let me know how your stimpak problems work out, as well as your C. assault rifle shortages, as i know a lot of places where there are stocks of them lying around. later,

700+ hours on the same charcter? I have close to that much time in the game, but it's spread out over nearly a dozen character. I have no idea what you would do for 700 hours on a single set of saves....

Well, sadly I am not level 22 yet, so I don't have the Quantum Chemist perk yet :P

He's playing on PS3 too which makes it doubly impressive. The longest I've been able to play a single character is 530 hrs. They usually don't make it past 80 hours before I'm off to the next.

@Deqath: Solve your stimpak shortage yet? Once you get to Point Lookout you'll have a couple new vendors to buy them from there and there are a bunch to scavenge too.

If I'm reading it right I have over 200 hrs on my first PS3 character and about 100 on my second. Dunno how much is on the PC... Guess I don't waste enough of my life as you guys :P

Anyway, even if you don't have the perk yet, still save the nukas. I've got several thousand stimpaks on one PS3 character, you'll be regretting wasting anything other than stimpaks to heal. To save them for now, whenever you're out of combat just find a bed to sleep in.

Ha, i know many people have asked me this question. I have had a ps3 for a long time, but only online for about 3 months, so i am VERY new to forums ect. i hope i post this right. basically, i love this game because there is so much to find and explore. i am also one of those guys who always has a TON of back-up armor and weapons to use to repair the more powerful 'unique' ones such as the A3-21 plasma rifle, or the 'VENGEANCE' gatling laser which are 2 of my 3 fav. weapons(the 3rd being the ALIEN BLASTER, i love using that in V.A.T.S. as it almost always vaporizes the enemy with the first shot. i even vaporized the BEHEMOTH at takoma park.) and armor wise, i ALWAYS wear the TESLA ARMOR, which combined with my perks gives me a DM of 81, so i would always love to just go nuts and fast travel place to place wiping out everyone(even the brotherhood of steel members that carried the mini-gun or the gat. laser) and because(do not ask me how as i do not know) i have 2 followers:Charon and Jericho, i was able to carry a lot of scavenged weaponry and armor back to my megaton home. I would love just wandering the wasteland for hours exploring and engaging hostiles(i really must have pi**ed off the talon company, because once i demolished them at fort bannister, they would always pop up out of nowhere, in huge numbers(6-10) and want to take my head home as a trophy, even when i had bad karma, i am talking incredibly bad karma, i would have both the regulators and the talon's wanting a piece of me. i pretty much have over 300 of every type of armor and normal weapons for my unique ones stashed away. and then one day i looked at how much time i had been playing, and it said 749.57.49 seconds. and counting.......
take care,
RONIN
