Read several news articles as of late, but this one interests me because from my perspective it has a clear cut outcome yet that outcome by the standards of others is wrong due to the 1st amendment for free speech.

So do you think the Stolen Valor act is unconstitutional or is it a valid law there to help protect the service men and women? (Note: Not going into the politics of it all i'm talking about the base portion of the law stating it's unlawful to lie about earning medals from any branch of the armed services. This vs. the first amendment stating people have a right to free speech.)

I'm not one to really get into things like this, but to be truthful I feel that this law isn't in violation of the first amendment. If the person in question was making up stories and told people that he was making up stories then it wouldn't be a problem. However from what i've read and garnered myself he actually wanted to make people believe he had earned those medals.

I really don't see how discussion can continue on this subject without getting in to the politics of the matter.
