Stonekeep

Any fans of this adventure role playing game from 1995? It was one of many FMV games of the time and featured an interesting magic system. It also came with a small hardcover book with a prequel story of sorts.

Hi! I've just started to play Stonekeep, since I bought it from http://www.gog.com last week, and I must say that I thought I liked it more than I actually do.

I think its interface has a lot of interesting things like the mirror and the scroll, but everytime I need to see the map I must click 4 or 5 times. Besides, the user-made annotations on the map are quite confusing.

And it's quite difficult to me. I'm pretty used to the "rest-and-heal" system of most of the modern CRPG's.

Anyway, when you play Stonekeep you can "breath" something that present CRPG's don't have...

I have this game sitting on my shelf, with it's original '3D picture'on the box!

Compared to modern CRPG's this game is hard, but it has so many features not included in RPG's any more it is quite simply, a classic!

Due to me being a GOG.com fan, I recently got my Stonekeep out again and began playing! It has one of the best game intro's of practically every RPG ever made, and back in the day I fell in love with Thera! The novel is excellent, but I am not so sure it has a lot to do with the game. It's a good read, and helps with the immersion nonetheless. And that, my friends, is the key to this game - the immersion! You barely have an interface to interfere and the way the story unfolds and the characters involved it just oozes a 'reality', a movie-type feel and a game where you ARE the hero!

I heartily recommend it, and at only $5.99 for a DRM free, guaranteed to wotk on your XP/Vista machine, it's a GOG.com bargain you cannot ignore in my book!

Best RPG and box design ever.

I would like to see Stonekeep 2 but it was cancelled.

Easily one of the best RPG games of all time. Even though the graphics are not up to par with modern games, the story line and plot easily make it a must for any RPG fan today.

Hi there!

Continuing my journey through gamesass classics, I started playing Stonekeep tonight. As always I'm documenting the experience in my blog:

BTW: Does anone know who actually wrote "Theras Awakening"?

Greetings,

Cool, thanks for the info, Chris!

Did you ever read the other Stonekeep novel? Is it worth hunting for a used copy?

There was another Stonekeep novel? I didn't know that.

*jumps over to Amazon*

Nope, never read it. Troy Denning is a good author, however. I'll have to track a copy. Thanks!
