I have had it with these reviewers influencing people and making them not buy this game. It is not unplayable, the texture pop-ins are there for about 3 seconds right when you spawn (so what its not a big deal), the game DOES have replay value (more then the average FPS), and the lag is starting to die down and I think Splash Damage said something about another patch. Everything else is fine really. The lag is the only issue so far, I mean the texture pop-ins are annoying but I can look past that easily, as long as they fix the netcode I will be happy. And for the love of christ people it is the first week. Might I remind you that Black Ops had several issues on the first month of its release? No one complained there... (atleast not to the extent where people are purposely trolling the game by editing the wiki falsely)
Words have never been more exact about this issue, well said! You covered it in a nutshell. People's mindset is stuck on the traditional FPS, they don't "jive" with team-based gaming because for nearly 15 years, all people have been playing is the same genre but with different window dressing. People are like "I don't know you, I'm not gonna be on your team, What for?!" Passing judgement starts from small things like this and the big idea is sometimes completely lost. Open-mindedness flew out the window with the creation of the CoD or Halo franchises. People have been seemingly genetically conditioned only to follow the leader and play the games that everyone else plays for fear of being ostracized by rest of their friends for daring to play something new.
I'm not sure about you, but for me I see the potential of Brink and where its going, Obviously when you come out with a new IP there are going to always be growing pains with it. The mechanics, aside from the server lag being worked on now, are small potatoes to the new experiences Brink offers. People said the same thing about Bulletstorm as well, and it really is a shame. I've been gaming all my life, over 25 years now, and I look for something that's new, fresh and out of the ordinary every once in a while. I quit playing the Medal of Honor series back in the day because it kept rehashing the same Word War II theme over and over. I feel similarly about playing sports games. I get bored playing the same genre constantly storylines may be different, but something like Borderlands for example, kind of made fun of the genre by making it wacky and fun as well. Splash Damage has plenty of time to work on improvements and the community will be there to support it.
