Stop worrying over Skyrim's size

Post » Sun Sep 04, 2011 12:09 am

Oblivion was bigger but it was filled with NOTHING. Drab countrysides with recycled environments... yawn. I'd take a "slightly smaller game world" anyday, in fact, I wouldn't even care if it was half the size, because of the amount of detail Skyrim is "supposedly" recieving.
If they deliver, I care not about the size.

Oblivion is bigger. No reason to be in denial about it. Pete just keeps saying its "about" the same size as Oblivion which is a nice PR way of saying it is smaller. But it doesn't bother me.

Skyrim is about the same size as Oblivion, but with much more detailed environments and POI's.

I've never worried about it. There will be plenty to see and do with the flatland, mountains, and underwater content.

Oblivion is only bigger in the amount of land you can walk and actually do stuff on. Im not sure where people are getting boring and full of nothing, when if you look at a fully explored map there is a location every 5 feet :P

Oblivion's game world was a big empty open space when you think about it, nothing of interest really. Only maybe a dozen or so out of the 200+ dungeons were truly unique and interesting.

Oblivion isnt bigger.

C'mon, "around the same size" means "a bit smaller". If Skyrim was a bit larger than Oblivion, they wouldn't hesitate to make that clear, and it's not exactly the same size, because if it were, they wouldn't be so vague. Skyrim is smaller.

So just because he says it is about the same size makes it automatically smaller while also saying it is by far the biggest game they have ever made. When I hear the about the same size I think its probably just barley slightly bigger or just barley slightly smaller I don't think well gosh now what am I going to do in the game. You guys are way over thinking the "About" and giving it context that it doesn't have.

Soo bottom line. It is smaller but mountains make it seem bigger cause it takes longer to trek across.

Size is not important tbh. It's all about how large the world feels, how much you can explore and how much you can do. There's more to explore in Skyrim than in Oblivion with more interesting views (so they say) so why make a scene that it might be slightly smaller than Oblivion?

They first said the truth; Skyrim is slightly smaller than Oblivion. Then came the doomsayers and started interpreting this that Skyrim was a lot smaller than Oblivion, and now they just say 'about the same size'. Considering some of the threads about it here on the forums I can't blame them.

As long as the landscapes look epic and vast, I'll be happy. To some extent, that is.

They're both 16 sq miles in size.

But Skyrim has mountains, 2-hour long dungeons, etc. So it is technically bigger.

The thing is you had things like county Bravil, that were long and narrow, and that prevents the player from exploring the regions. Also Oblivions mountians where huge and didnt promote mountain exploration like Skyrim duz...

Not trying to make a big deal, but there's no point in denial. I personally don't care that Skyrim is smaller. So was Morrowind, and that felt quite a bit larger.

Can I see a source where Beth explicitly says Skyrim is smaller, and you guys didn't just infer that, or go off of what some article some dude wrote?

Also Skyrim will be bigger than Morrowind by loads. I'm happy. Morrowind had plenty to explore.

Completely inferred in my case, but Pete is always fuzzying up the truth, so it's not an unreasonable assumption.
