storage problems (rant)

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 10:03 pm

well, so Fallout 4's my first Fallout game... (I've played Skyrim though; also my first TES game, finished back in 2011). I didn't know that you can't just store items anywhere..... I stored my weapons and armors in Public Occurences, and now after not playing for around a week, all my items are gone!

brb bye Big Boy

brb bye Kellogg's Pistol

brb bye Fat Man

brb bye Greaser outfit

brb bye suits

brb bye etc fashionable items

Some (most) containers respawn, and that is what happened to you. When they do respawn, whatever is currently in them is just gone, and you cannot get it back. (short of console commands, if you are on PC, if you are on console, then, no recovery at all.)

Only store stuff in containers YOU create via the workbench.

If you have a save from before you stored the stuff, just go back to that save and play from there. If not it's important to know that with Bethesda games for many reasons....save often and save saves.

I would suggest the Red Rocket as a great base of operations.

Is this a surprise, all of the storage outside of the houses/settlements seem to respawn.

am unaware of this... cot dam, should've googled first before settling with putting all my stuff inside Piper's home... -_- oh well............ I'm actually more concerned about the useless stuff (the fashionable clothes)... although I think that the Big Boy and the Fat Man will come in handy later on in the game...........................

Next time, you'd be better off storing your stuff in containers which you make for your settlements.

finding any safe space is a challenge. If you store stuff in a settlement you have to be careful. Those settlers have stick fingers

If you played Skyrim, then you should have known that containers respawn, because that's what happened in Skyrim. Basically, the only containers that were safe in Skyrim are the ones in your homes.

Public Occurences is not your home nor is it your settlement, therefore it is not safe for long term storage.

The stuff I carry, is going into my tough boxes in my settlement (as a singular). Its a long and hazardous walk back.

I use the power-armour as a utility vehicle or what others call Pickup Truck.

chit, so even if I was the one who created the containers in the settlement, it's still not safe? lmao, bethesda should've put an option where players can put encrypt a room via terminal

Containers in settlements where you have access to the workbench are safe.

Public Occurence is Piper's home, not the player's home. The home that you can buy in Diamond City will be safe as well.

They are safe, in that they won't respawn, but, if your settlers can get to them..... You may find one of them running around with your 10mm of Uber Destruction..... :D

You can easily enough. Settlers can't jump it seems, so surround the top floor of your building with a rail and they can't get up there. You can usually jump over it, or just move it with the workshop.

I made the mistake of dropping a Fatboy launcher in Sanctuary while I was over-encumbered and trying to do some scrapping when the Settlement came under attack.

Aaaaaaah ... no, it's fine, I've got dozens of Heavy Lasers out there, unless it's a Behemoth, we're fine.

Finally finish scrapping, look up, there's one of my Setters who has grabbed the Fatboy and is running towards the Super Mutants ... who are standing in-front of my Generators, firing impotently at them thanks to the Junk Walls I've erected around them to prevent just this kind of shenanigan.

"What is he ... no. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Fwumph-psssht! goes the launcher as the sole shell in the thing goes flying through the air, misses the Super Mutant and lobs right into the cluster of generators behind the Junk Walls.

Suddenly EVERY TURRET IN THE SETTLEMENT STOPS FIRING. But the Super Mutants are all but untouched.

It was a hell of a fight. And I was sorely tempted to shoot the Settler in their behind after that. But lesson learned, I guess.

That's what you get for storing your belongings at someone else's place. LOL.

Drop it at your own spot, ffs.
