Storage

I just got the house in Megaton and have put some stuff in a locker, just wondering will the items be safe there?

If the storage isn't 'red' (i.e. owned by some NPC), it's safe. You can leave stuf in containers all over the place and it will not vanish.

There are only a few containers in the game known to restock, and they are all the places you'd least expect to put your stuff in.
