In-Store vs. Digital Download

Post » Mon Nov 28, 2011 9:45 pm

If I buy the physical version, I can active the game on Steam? My internet is not good to download GB's of data. :sadvaultboy:

I'll be going with digital download as the closest store with a decent price is over 300 miles away. I'll choose bandwidth over spending excess money.

well i want a physical copy of the game so that i actually own it an it isn't tied to some 3rd party account. I preodered months ago before the steamworks announcement. HOWEVER thanks to the powers that be it doesn't matter what version you get since it is still tied to some idiotic 3rd party account. The only benefit of a physical copy is the physical map as well as future installation times (as opposed to having to download it every time).

P.S.

I HATE STEAMWORKS :flamethrower: :cryvaultboy: :swear: :brokencomputer:

I think having a physical copy of the game is best, imagine if the site crashed or something and your game was lost... So many things can happen with purchasing online, I only purchase online when I cannot buy the game via retail.

Skyrim works via steamworks so its the same thing, really.

You won't have to download the game every time, steam lets you backup installed games for quick re-installation if needed.

The steam store doesn't reset till 10am and makes it so you can play skyrim, that's why people are going to go into the store.

Actually, Steam likes to preload games where possible. They're not playable until the unlock code is sent at the appropriate time, but I preloaded Deus Ex and was able to play from the get-go. I had a couple of issues with FOVN DLCs having to wait on the store, but not full games.

you can actually create a hardcopy of your game via steam and use that for other PC's if you predict that your internet will not be good enough to download it or just too slow.

yeah i'ma agree, I had to switch computers 4 times in my oblivion career, and having the hard copy worked way better.

anti digital download absolutely baffles me. Are you people also against streaming movies because you'd rather leave your house, drive to the video store, then drive back home to see a movie? I've been saying forever digital download is the future. And don't bring laziness into this because that's a ridiculous argument.

If there's a pre-load I'll get it online otherwise I wouldn't waste my limited bandwidth. :sadvaultboy:

Well if you buy it digitally you can then just back it up to a dvd and its the same as buying a dvd...
