But, I say sir, in how many games do we toil for the ending (no matter how good or bad?) when it makes us feel like we are all alone against such evil?

I'm not saying toil alone. But when the big event happens that constitutes finishing the main quest/beating the final boss, *I* want to be the one doing it not watching an NPC do it.
Azura, Talos, and Vivec helped the Neverarine defeat Dagoth Ur. But at Red Mountain, he took all the actions to win.
Nope. I didn't feel sorry for the guy, nor did he feel sorry for himself. He accepted his final fate. As is the nature of "dieing honourably in battle"
I don't think Alduin's actions made the player Dragonborn. At least I thought that was the main reason Alduin spares the player because s/he's dragon kin in soul and Alduin sees this potential beheading as an affront to his own kind, hence demolishing the rest of Helgen.
Well, Martin died. The player can't legitimately continue the game after the end if he dies in the story. People wanted to continue playing after the end. They expect that from BGS games. Proof => FO3 At least that may be the reason why BGS had Martin defeat Dagon because the "hero" was slated to die
Only to supposedly replace a daedra's pawn
No. You weaken him, but then before you can defeat him, there's a cutscene, and Hermaeus Mora finishes him off.
I still had to beat him to get him to that state, not watch Hermy do while standing in the corner.
You did play the entire game of oblivion to get to that point, though. The difference is the size and epicness of the "last" cutscene.
Herma could have, he just let you do it....because.
Higher powers only intervene when necessary. Never before
Herma probably wanted to make sure his replacement pawn was actually as strong, if not stronger, than his old pawn
svcks cause neither him nor Roggvir end up in Sovngarde either.
I'm pretty sure that Sovngarde is a bigger place from it's small in game representation and with more people, the same way a huge city like Whiterun is represented by only a handful of buildings or people. We may not see them in-game but that doesn't mean they aren't there.
That would be ironic - live a good Nord life just to be eaten in the afterlife...
It would be funny, if at one point Alduin says that he did save the char and want him to join his side.
But since that does not happen, I have my suspicions.
Otherwise, to see Alduin as fried is a good excuse to ignore the main-quest, so why not.
Buddies with the world eater? I mean, even if you play an evil Dragonborn you have to kill Alduin if you want to keep living. The guy is here to destroy Nirn!
That depends on how far one goes with the main quest. If you never stir up trouble, you'll never see another dragon. You'll never even hear about the "world eater." Which is what a lot of my characters do.
As far as I remember, Alduin does never say that he want to destroy the world.
There is only a prophecy about that.
But here the snake bit it's tail.
If we assume that Alduin want to destroy the whole world, inclusive the char, then why should he did try to save the char by attacking Helgen?
So either, Alduin do not save anyone, just because he is Alduin, the world-eater, or the prophecy is just wrong or the term world-eater is not to understand literally.
Like, the world as we know it, would be changed if the dragon-cult would raise again!
No more war about worshiping Talos or not! Just pray to dragons, or be prey of of dragons!
Yeah, he reneged on his original job as the World Eater. But he wants to do something just as bad --- he'd rather rule and act as a god.
Well, I do think his timing more than coincidental
Well, the character doesn't necessarily know that at the start of the game
They did that pretty cool in the ESO storryline end battle you was given special powers for fighting Molag Bal, pretty cool as you single hit to kill the normal enemies before the fight.
And I had no issues with the Oblivion end, hard end battle is pretty cliche so refreshing some games do different.
If you want an end battle make it hard, the ESO and the Dragonborn fights was good in that you had to work for it.
The fight with Ardudin was pretty disappointing mostly because of the AI, the followers tanked him while I stood and shot arrows at him.
