If Ulfric's happy to let Imperials and Dunmer join the cause, I don't see him waving away mages.
I think the Stormcloaks dislike elves more then mages and they'll even take elves into their ranks. If your a nord especially, I think they would be happy to let you join as long as you can kill an ice wraith. Also, Wuunferth the Unliving.
I don't really see the problem, there's plenty of lore on ancient nord wizards. Gauldur for instance.
Your character has to be a little dense to want to join the stormcloaks though. Maybe a pure destruction mage.
Well, the Stormcloaks desire an independent Skyrim, right? If so, all you need to join them is to agree with that. A Nord wizard is still a Nord remember.
Spellswords have always been respected, and do not have the Stigma that a Battlemage has amongst the Soldiers.
I'd be interested to know of Ulfric's personal stance on magic. But he has a court wizard, so it's certainly lore friendly.
Um, he's a mage that wants to fight for Skyrim's freedom?
Wasn't Gauldur a Breton?
I don't see why the story would have to be any different from a warrior. Use Wuunferth the unliving as an example. Or Snow-Shod's daughter the battle-maiden. They obviously don't turn away mages or care how they fight. Only that they do fight, and do so with loyalty to the cause.
I don't understand the contradiction? Modern Nords are pathetic, and a disgrace to their ancient kin. Especially when it comes to their absurd views on magic.
He was, yes, but his sons seemed to be Nords. Could have had a Nord wife.
The only ones with real issue to it are those in Morthal and Winterhold. Winterhold for the collapse and the college suspiciously surviving, which is reasonable, and the Oblivion Crisis caused by mages, and the Thalmor. Hardly absurd or hard to understand. Even so, do you not hear the guard comments, see the court mages, or Nord priests? Or hear that the college still gets plenty of business for their magical arts? They may not celebrate magic, but they don't all resent it either.
That merely is player privilege.
Not a single non-Nord npc among the Stormcloaks.
Well the holds have court wizards/mages (even Windhelm) , and there are some Nord's with magic abilities mentioned/seen in the game. You could just make him/her a Nord, yet consider them an Elder.
I didn't mean to imply that there was a contradiction in there at all. Just that all you really need to join up with the Stormcloaks is the desire to fight for Skyrim's freedom.
Just answering the OP is all.
I realize he's not actually in the Stormcloaks, but wasn't there an Imperial farmer looking to join? I don't see why that would be player privileged just because no other races are represented.
Completely unrelated, but why do your post freak out and have crazy font sizes mid-sentence sometimes? Just curious.
The imperials saying Ulfric has the right of it are non nord npcs.
Endon, the Redguard silversmith in Markarth, has a son who joined the Stormcloaks.
However, to stay on topic, there is no evidence that the Stormcloaks are opposed to magic, considering that their leader himself uses magic.
Plus, Stormcloak battlemages can be found in the Creation Kit, though they were cut from the game like much of the CW.
You don't see any battlemages on either side in-game, but it would make sense to have healers and destruction magic users. Although I doubt the Stormcloaks would be okay with Necromancers and illusionists.
Magic is magic. You don't have to be evil (by evil I mean sympathize with the Thalmor) be a Necromancer. Or have I missed something?
Remember what Tsun says if you tell him you're Arch-mage:
“Well met, mage of Skyrim. The Nords may have forgotten their forefathers' respect for the Clever Craft, but your comrades throng this hall. Here in Shor's house we honor it still."
So RP that you're leading the Nords back to their ancient ways ...
Most people are opposed to necromancy in Tamriel. And in some places conjuration. Illusion is also a no no for messing with people's minds.
