Storms wipe out part of my town

I didn't even lose power.
My sister living about 5 miles away from me had an Oak tree land on her home.

Her & her hubby & the kids are all okay. That's what is counts first.

Their house is probably a loss.

Amazing to me how a storm can wipe out her home yet not touch me.

Sorry to here that, good that no one was hurt. Lucky your house wasnt hit bad too. I had a similar event happen to me and my family 3 summers ago (although not as bad of a tornado) we had a small tornado go thorugh our back yard and hit houses across the street from us pretty hard but never touched us. We lost some siding from the hail being whipped at our house and we had some debris from other houses in our driveway, including a baby doll that I though was a real body at first because it was slightly burried and I saw the legs sticking out and I nearly lost it until I saw the tag on its foot :P

Sorry to here that...

Yes, I'm also sorry that it is there.

Also, I'm glad she and her family weren't hurt. I'm sorry their home got destroyed though. I hope they'll manage to recover from such devastating material loss, but I think the most important thing is that they're all alive.

We've had some impressive flooding here in upstate New York - not enough to be a big problem yet but the rivers sure are impressive. Of course compared to what the storms are doing to you the torrential rain we've been getting is nothing.

I'm glad your sister and her family are alright, and impressed that you got through this without power! My in-laws (who are about forty minutes away from us) lost their power and the landline phone because of the storm. I guess that says something about the quality of your utilities . . . or the quality of there's :D

Good Lord....

The local news here is showing footage of scenes of entire neighborhoods wiped out...
Then they "Interrupt" the footage with news that...

"American Idle will still be broadcast tonight"

Good thing they can still tell the difference between the important stuff and the just-more-people-dying stuff. :goodjob:

The same thing happened in TN, apparently. A tornado touched down in my town, but on a seperate road, and all I got at my house was rain and thunder.

A student I went to high-school with died in Tuscaloosa during the tornado. We talked but weren't really friends, still sad that she died young. :(

Wow. glad you are still alive dude. I have been hearing about everything going on with the tornadoes and storms. Really saddening. I'm sorry if you lost any friends at all.

Yeah it was pretty nasty. There's some good (albeit, not good) footage of the Tuscaloosa tornado up on Youtube. They'll probably be calling it F4-F5. Very rare to have those, although the US gets at least 1 F5 per year. The bad news is, that area is supposed to get storms all next week. Of course severe weather isn't forecast yet but in that area the food is always good for bad weather. Very sad to hear there's been over 300 deaths. I really enjoy this type of weather but not when it kills.

It's really weird, I live in North Carolina and all we got was strong rain and wind on Wednesday, and absolutely nothing on Thursday. Meanwhile there seems to be damage all around us. I have no idea how that could have happened, but I'm thankful that it did.

My thoughts go out to everyone who was affected.

I have some relatives that live near Birmingham. They lost their house but luckily no one died or was hurt. I was worried about them because nobody could contact them for a while. Tornadoes are no joke.
