Storyline for guilds

Post » Tue Aug 10, 2010 6:03 am

Every guild in OB had a specific story line. DB had you kill their own people and had you framed

The thieves guild was all about lifting the curse of the gray cowl and letting you become the gray fox

Mage guild was about destroying the practice and uprising of necromancy

Fighters was more or less about defeating their competition of the blackwood company while discovering all the shady things they did.

I was wondering what you guys hope or want for a story line for any of those guilds. Obviously the mages guild or fighters might not be in Skyrim but an equivalent guild hopefully will be and the DB is definitely confirmed to be in. So what do you guys want for a story line for the guilds. I personally want for the thieves guild to restore its crazy glory instead of always referring to the past when they stole the gray cowl from Nocturnal. I want to steal something from each deadric prince and frame other daedric princes to start a quarrel between them> it would be talked about how the thieves guild tricked the daedric princes for years to come.

For DB i want to assassinate every member of the Morag Tong.. if they are in the game.. to ensure that DB is the only guild of its kind.

Do you guys have any ideas
i deleted the poll because ya it was pretty one sided there was two answers and one never got a vote lol.. what do you guys want as a story for the guilds such as DB

The poll was asking basically if you want quality or quantity in the guilds storyline. obviously people picked quality stupid poll on my part

I prefer quality over quantity. So I chose less guilds for better quests/storyline

I feel like guilds have only gotten better over time. Daggerfall had the most, then Morrowind, then Oblivion currently with the least, but in my opinion, Oblivion has the best guilds, then Morrowind, then Daggerfall. Quality over quantity. I'd rather have a few guilds, each with meaningful storylines than a bunch of guilds with most of the quests just kind of phoned in.

C: 8 guilds or more with long story lines and a lot of depth in the story

Of course you have to bear in mind that it's not uncommon for me to do the main quest two or three times, then play a dozen characters who never touch it. I also want skill requirements (or something that serves the exact same purpose) back- no more nonsense of a mage's guild type of organization with a guildmaster who has never cast a spell.

I voted A but hope that with a larger team we'll have more guilds with long and detailed quests

Maybe the Fighter's Guild will reward us with arms and armor this time and not just boring old gold.

i dont see any reason to choose
Morrowind had a ton of factions and they were all very detailed
wouldnt mind seeing a Morrowind faction system return in Skyrim, by that I mean factions that react to each other (i.e. join one cuts you off from joining others, makes others dislike or like you more)
itd also be nice to have requirements come back, like having to actually be good at magic to advance in the mage guilds (rank test would be really cool too, like having to spar with a high ranking member to reach the higher ranks in the fighters guild)
I just hope the dont go the Oblivion way regarding factions, it seemed too shallow in retrospect

I really liked the final quest of the Thieves guild. It was one of those big damn adventures that I'd love to see quite a few of in Skyrim. Paradise from the main quest was similar, and the Shivering Isles certainly had a couple of similar scale. For anyone that played the Verona House Bloodlines mod, I recall all of those quests being long and interesting. As for everything else...I've played through each guild at least three times. The one that I feel, though, pulled me in the least was the Fighters Guild. The last two quests have a good amount of mindf**k, but that's all I really got out of it. What I didn't feel was the reasoning. The Fighters Guild's motives were all twisted up and hanging around all over the place. Gotta protect the members of the guild, gotta fight off the bad guys, gotta finish these contracts and let the world know that we're still noble. I still come away from it all with this feeling that I'm just in charge of a bunch of muscle and our only rewards for pay.

I know we'll see a guild for fighters in Skyrim. I want to see that guild have a mission statement. I like mission statements. If I follow the questline along the path that they first intended, I want it all to make sense based on that mission statement. I'd also love the freedom to have my own mission statement. The Dark Brotherhood really touched on that at the end. DB's mission statement was just do what you're told, and you can be creative in how you pull that off. At the end of doing what you were told, you got completely screwed over, so now you had to craft your own mission: hurt them back. Personally, I would never play as a sociopath. My character felt that the murders were necessary. In truth, I was always looking for my chance to cut off the black hand's fingers. The questline gave that to me, and that was awesome. I'd love to see that same option for the new brotherhood, or at least the option to murder on my own terms. I want to be able to lie on my contracts.

I guess my comments don't get directly at the storyline component of the guilds, but I want storylines that adhere to what I've discussed, rather than just being deep. I want them to be deep, and to be something that I can experience and feel immersed.

I love how in oblivion you had to steal x amount worth of gold to get your next mission. Granted the amounts were way too little, and on my first playthrough I had already sold off enough gold for the last requirement. With fcom it raised the amounts, so my subsequent playthroughs were better. Anyways, I liked this because I got to invent my own little quests, of tracking peoples routines then breaking into their houses, or just breaking in and playing by ear.

I'd want the db to have similar quests, like maybe the imperials are hounding them and I have free reign to take out high ranking officials in ways that cAnt be traced back to the db. Basically free play missions, with a broad goal. I can choose who, what, where and when, so long as they are high ranking military, or political officials. Also they could have an imperial faction, and by doing these free play missions it locks you out of joining the imperials, or something to that effect?
