Strange bug and help with load order

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 6:24 am

I spent about two days grabbing a variety of mods. I just booted up the game for the first time since I initially tested MGE to find a rather annoying bug. It causes dialogue menus for NPCs near me to pop up at random. I have no idea what is doing this. The only thing I didn't do was merge dialogue lists, but I don't think this would cause a problem.

Can anyone identify this bug and tell me what mods are causing it?

Also, could someone help me create a better load order...the amount of mods I have has made creating one difficult.

Use MLOX to sort the load order - also, I'd suggest getting rid of that Merged_Leveled_Lists.esp and use Wyre Mash's Mashed lists instead.

I think that's a good thing; there is no tool AFAIK that can merge dialogue safely.

BTW I think MWE is considered prone to crashing and is generally shunned.

I already have a very lite load order program, if MLOX adds something more then simply rearranging the order, then I'll look into it. As for the Wyre Mash, I was using TESTools for this, but i'll try out Wyre Mash's function instead to see if that fixes my problem.

I still need some advice on how to organize my plugin load order though (Like what needs to be higher on the list and what should be loaded later.)

Hmm, good to know about dialogue lists...they only seem to cuase problems for me.

Only reason I have Morrowind Enhanced is because of two journal script mods I use, one that removes all journal entries, and another that lets me add my own journal entries. These are really awesome. If I could use a mod like those without MWE, then I'd gladly ditch it's use.

You should only chose one esp from IceNioLivRobeReplacerALL.esp and IceNioLivRobeReplacerPLUS.esp.See the readme, sometimes the modder writes the loadorder or confilct.

Alright, I've followed everyone's wonderful advice thus far...

I used MLOX to get me a nice little load order going...

Wyre Mash created a Mashed_List for me and I deleted my old leveled lists from TESTools...

and I fixed the fact I was using multiple robe replacer plugins...

and yet when I go to start up the game, the problem with NPC dialogue boxes starting up at random is still there! Does anyone have any other troubleshooting tips I can follow to nail down this annoying bug!?

By "popping up at random" you mean that whenever you get near to a NPC, dialogue starts?

you have got past the tutorial, where loads of dialogue boxes pop up on their own anyway, haven't you?

There has to be NPCs around, but the ones that pop up are not necessarily near me, it feels to be completely at random. Sometimes I could go 30 seconds without something popping up...or it could just be 5 seconds between each time it pops.

Nope, I'm using an alternate beginnings mod, if you must know where I've started, its been Ebonheart.

Wow, I just broke this case wide open. I've noticed something...whenever a random NPC dialogue box pops up, its always preluded by a NPC making a idle noise, in this case, snorting with their nose. Every time without fail, that noise happens, then instantly the NPC dialogue box pops up!

How in the world can this be?!

Actually, it appears to be ANY idle NPC sound file, its just the snort/sniff of an imperial is most common. Go figure!
