Strange crashing with mods

Post » Wed Aug 31, 2011 2:27 pm

I recently started to play oblivion after a long break, so I decided to get few mods to boost up the gaming experience, however I have strange problem. Here are few screenshots from Wrye Bash and the mods, what i'm currently using.

The thing is that atm I'm in Bruma I can't either Wait or Fast Travel without game crashing. I have a save from the end of first dungeon where you could still change your race, class etc. And there's no crashing if I wait in there. And I'm using exactly same mods without disabling any of the mods. So any idea what's wrong?

Only what I have replaced is the Qarl Texture Pack 3 with the redimized one. Improved trees and flora addon is yellow because there same named document with improved signs, so no real problem there. Although there's a conflict with Better Cities Resources and Unofficial Patch Supplementals no idea how to fix it, any ideas?

I'm using boss to sort out the load order so it should be okay.
Help would be appreciated, thank you for reading this!

Also I have these specs:
Core 2 Duo E6600
Geforce GTX 460 1GB
Windows 7

It looks a bit of a mess, to be honest.

The best way to install mods is one (or very few indeed) at a time, running BOSS, cleaning any mods that require that (as suggested by BOSS, in fact), rebuilding the Bashed Patch properly, and finally testing that everything is working fine, after each mod addition. If you do this, you will know straight away which mod has messed things up, if everything was working perfectly just prior to its addition. Oh, and the other thing to do, after adding any mod that adds or changes "*_far.nif" files or the like, is run TES4LODGen. For example, after installing RAEVWD. Probably ULs, and maybe Better Cities too (I can't quite recall). Anyway, if you're not sure, run it anyway - it is also another means of picking up potential issues.

Also, make sure that your installation order is correct, not just your load order (and yes, BOSS is the best way to deal with the latter, except in a small number of corner cases). The first thing that strikes me as (probably) incorrect there is having three mod archives before the UOP - including the UL compilation.

You have mods installed that should not be there. And your Bashed Patch needs proper building. Et cetera.

See http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35230, to begin with (try following that guide, until you have the understanding needed, to use Wrye Bash to the extent that you intend to). Also, see http://tescosi.com/wiki/Main_Page for lots and lots of good advice and information about a number of other things (along with BAIN, etc., actually).

edit: Where do you have Oblivion installed (as in, which directory)?

For future reference, to get your load order from Wrye Bash, go to the Mods tab, right click on "File" and then click "List Mods..." this will give you a copyable list of your active mods. Then just give it the good ol' CTRL+A, CTRL+P and then paste it using the spoiler tags.

Also, it may be helpful (though tedious) to read through Boss's info to see if it tells you about any conflicts or errors. Also, make sure (as mentioned before) that your Bashed Patch is build correctly.

Oh, and, is Cities Alive At Night compatible with Open Cities? Also, I'd suggest getting Open Cities Reborn. It's more recent and sounds like it's a lot better.

I notice one thing, which isn't the cause of your crashes. In your installer packages you have Fast Exit. BAIN won't install obse plugins, unfortunately it's one of its very few shortcomings. Notice the white colored box. You'll have to install that manually or use OBMM.

But your bashed patch is not active in those screenshots. That *will* cause crashes. Other than that it's hard to say, try posting a conventional load order like Imperial Knight said; the alphabetical listing isn't all that helpful.

BAIN won't install obse plugins

It certainly will, and does. This is a fairly recent development in the scheme of things though, so I am not so much correcting you, as informing you of a rather significant upgrade (one of several, in recent times).

And yes, http://tescosi.com/wiki/Oblivion:How_to_Post_Your_Load_Order (via Wrye Bash, preferably) is a good idea, always, when seeking help or advice here (regarding your mods setup, that is).

Really? I'm using v294.2 and I still can't for the life of me make it install an obse plugin, even if I check "has extended directories" (or whatever the actual option is called). What am I doing wrong? And either way, isn't the white check box in the package list an indication that it has no files to install, or is it only checking for "regular" files (esp's, meshes, textures, etc).

I don't want to hijack this thread, though, so if it takes more than a post or two, I'll move the question over to the Wrye Bash thread. Thanks.

That got fixed a while ago :). I've installed plenty of OBSE plugins with BAIN. There's a hidden option if you right-click on the column headers in BAIN to enable installation of OBSE plugins :).

Indeed, it is true.

In the Installers tab of Wrye Bash, if you right-click on the top bar, options such as "Skip OBSE Plugins" will appear. Deselect that one in particular, and you should be good to go.

A white box with a plus sign in it indicates (if I recall correctly) an "installed" BAIN package with nothing installable having actually been selected. In that case, it would be because OBSE plugins are being ignored (see above).
