Strange Glitch On a Vanilla Install?

Post » Tue Aug 25, 2009 9:34 pm

This one is weird... Hopefully it's not a spoiler or something, because I have never played thru the entire game.

Keep in mind that I saw this after a Vanilla install with SI and all DLCs installed. No UOP patches or DCL patches were installed yet.

Anyone have some ideas what in the world might of caused this?

actually it is somewhat of a spoiler. It is from the Knights of the Nine DLC. And yes, that is completely normal.

It's from your fast overclocking. You became an airplane!

No sorry, I have no idea. Do you play with a companion mod? CM Partners?

Pelinal Whitestrake is from the Knights.esp as far as I know. So, if you say it's vanilla with no DLCs installed, it would seem you have some confusion left over from uninstall and reinstall procedures.

gothemasticator

EDIT: Whoops. I misread. You do have the DLCs installed, so, yeah, he's from that.

The bigger question here is how in the [censored] you actually managed to find him.

I'd say you were right on any other day. But I just did a fresh install of a new OS and Oblivion. There should be absolutely nothing of my past install that would be left over since my drive was formatted. Here is what I have added so far...

Oblivion Vanilla
SI
All DLCs
OBMM
BOSS
OBSE 18.6
Pluggy 2.5b
Fast Exit 2
OSR 4.1
OBGE (TimelyGodRays, SSAOv2)

Sooo, I'm at a loss. After I disabled KOTN the mysterious cloud went away.
EDIT - The only thing that I have loaded that is different from my past installs is OBSE. I was using 18.4 before.

It was explained above. This is from KotN.

because that is from the KoTN DLC, spoiler warning:
Spoiler
you meet and talk to pelinal later in the KOTN quest-line (yes you talk to him in the sky, it's supposed to be as if you are having some sort of vision or dream)

all cleared up :)

Yes, I understand that. So, is this guy always up there and I am just now noticing, or would he only appear if the KOTN quest was started?
Because I have not started KOTN quest yet.

EDIT - Thanks UknownK

I've not checked in the CS to make sure but I would assume he's always there. The devs probably figured no one would ever notice him that far up.

Interesting... I was on the bridge outside of the IC Market District when I saw it. So, not like I was riding an akatosh in the air or anything. My view distance is default.
I haven't made any .ini changes. Oh well, I will try another new game to see if he still appears. If he does, I think I will revert to an older OBSE version to test.

EDIT - Started a new game... Dude is still up there...
UPDATE - Switched back to OBSE 18.4 - I still see him up there.

I just don't understand how can you post a topic likes this one
The character and the cloud are both from Knights of the nine and you are not supposed to go up there with a console command ok?!
Its not a glitch its normal, its a part of the DLC's
A Vanilla game is Oblivion without anything (no DLC's or SI)
I hope this is the answer to your question

This topic is hilarious...

All who are offended by the spolier please go to brain surgery and get that part of memory removed

I've always had KOTN installed and never noticed a strange cloud above the city... I'll hafta check that out next time I'm playing.

I had no idea it was a spoiler. My point of the topic is to gain advice as to how I get rid of a cloud sitting in the sky that I believe shouldn't be visible from ground level. Is it seriously normal to see this could from such a far distance after starting a brand new game? Because if this is normal, it's the first time in 3 years of playing this game that I have ever noticed a floating cloud above the IC tower.

I don't see any moderators on currently or else I would have them add a tag for spoiler alert. Sorry if I have offended anyone.

I checked it out, looks like the KOTN unofficial patch fixes this problem.

haha, easy for you to say. It's highly irritating. Total game killer IMO

UPDATE - Unofficial Official Mods Patch fixed this! I can't even believe the devs would of left such a HUGE mistake in the game for modders to have to develop a fix for.
I can't believe this wasn't fixed by one of the official patches!

I removed my screenshot links to avoid any further spoilers... Sorry everyone, I suppose that must of been the first time I ever loaded a game without the UOP. Will never make that mistake again.

For what it's worth, looking at your screenshots in your first post, I have NO idea what you're talking about  It looks like the sky to me. But, regardless, I'm glad you managed to get it fixed to your satisfaction :) And, as for your comment about the developers, Bethesda has never been known for their post-release support. The UOP and its colleagues are considered must-haves, and with good reason.

Believe me, its not the only one! You should definitely look into all the unofficial patches. No reason not to use them.

I found him once before I ever did KOTN, because I saw this strange square cloud directly over the white gold tower in an otherwise perfectly clear sky. It was annoying me, so I TCL'd myself up there to see what was up with it figuring I might be able to disable it or something because it clearly didn't belong there... and there he was sitting on it. He wasn't much into chatting with me though. I think I posted a message on here about it too :)

That may be, but in this instance bashing on them for it is just lame. In a normal game that cloud guy isn't even visible from the ground. And by normal I mean installed and not prodded, poked, and tweaked. People have made a big deal out of seeing it up there but even when it got pointed out I was never able to see it unless I was somehow cheating and off the ground at a considerable height. So it's not a bug worthy of needing aftermarket support because nothing about it is broken.

I'm not bashing, not at all! Sorry if I gave the wrong impression... like I said, even looking at his SCREENSHOT, I had no clue what it was he saw that annoyed him so. I just didn't really feel like arguing with the OP on just how "HUGE" of an issue this really was :P

Ok, I know the first pic wasn't so clear based on the time of day and all. But just so you know I'm not crazy...
However, the first pic I took wasn't right when I saw it. I exited the game to turn on FRAPS but the next time
I went back in game, the weather changed when I went back to the IC Market Place Bridge.

@http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showuser=176330 - It's really easy to see this if you want to. Simply install a new game with no Unofficial Patches. Crank all of your settings to high in game.
Fast Travel to the IC Market District. You should end up just outside the IC Market Place Gate. Look up, and that's it. No tweaking necessary. I know many don't believe me, but I did a fresh OS install. I hadn't added anything other than what I mentioned in my first post.
No other changes were made to the game.

I, too, had a floating man above the IC Market District... once a had a "teleport to target" (swap places with target) spell... I threw the spell at him (missing a few times) and once he was on the ground, I went to god mode so the fall back to the ground wouldn't kill me and looked at the character... if it is the same one as mine, he is a mage with a scroll that talks about a "super jump" spell he created that would allow him to jump vast distances.... other mages told him it was impossible and he decided to prove it to them... he was above the market place already dead and he's been in my games with and without the DLC's, mods or whatever else I've tried over the years...

Maybe he was an inside joke from Morrowind from the developers, or... what? Anyway, hope that helps any...
