A Strange, Very Annoying Design Choice

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 5:08 am

Settlements are obviously intended to be a big part of this game. In order to build, grow and maintain settlements you need a variety of raw materials, typically gathered by scavenging. The game incentivizes us to pick up more or less every single object we can carry.

Since that's part of the game, that the designers deliberately included, why then did they also decide to make just about every companion hassle you for looting every single damned time you pick something up?

Seriously, can we have the option to say "Look pal, I know you think this it's all worthless but trust me, I'm going to use this crap to feed, shelter and defend dozens of people, sparing them a life wandering from one hellish shanty to another trying to stay ahead of raiders. So shut your cake hole."

Agreed - I want to punch my companion in the face every time they make a comment about the junk I pick up.

Haha :D
"No account for taste" !
Speaking of design choices, why not give us a backpack (or mail shoulder bag) since there is already a model for it in the game ?
Well. I have the mod now but still...

Strong: "Humans stupid, pick up junk; not like Strong!"

Anyway, I don't mind NPCs or companions having a "tude" once in a while. It's part of the game's entertainment value that I enjoy.

and every time I'm crafting I hear that "tinker, tinker, tinker" from behind, followed by some bizarre comment about super mutantants ruling the world or being hungry but no people around

I find Nick's condescending laugh to be the worst.

Dogmeat and Codsworth are the only companions I have that DON'T constantly complain when I loot. Piper is not too bad but she does complain. Everyone else annoys the s**t out of me with their snippy, insistent nagging.

In the scheme of things, not the worst. Back in Skyrim I thought Lydia's sarcasm was the worst. Little did I know...

Dogmeat never judges me. Dogmeat graciously picks up anything I want it too. My Dogmeat is awesome.

This is my Dogmeat, there are many like it, but this one is mine.

I would love to see those big packs appear on dogmeat when I place stuff into his inventory.... would make him more realistic when I put 200 pounds of junk on them.

I find Piper quite amusing actually. "Hmmm......(long pause) What's that for?" Don't know about any of the others as I haven't recruited them yet.

One day after CK release, I expect to see this as a Nexus Hot File: "Companion don't comment when you pick up junk" mod.

I think Piper is the least annoying when it comes to that. I actually like the occasional "What's that for?".

I like her ...."What's that for...?" now and then but when she spams it it goes from endearing to passive aggressive.

There is a Travelers Coat that has a backpack attached to it... Unfortunately you are unable to add any leather onto it...

Though the companion yapping can be annoying, on a scale of 1-10 I wouldn't put it any higher than a 2.
