Strangeness with Throw Voice

Post » Wed May 11, 2016 4:24 pm

I don't use the Throw Voice shout very often, but I think I'd have noticed this sometime in the several thousand hours I've played. I accidentally chose it instead of Unrelenting Force when fighting a Draugr Deathlord above me on a ledge. I heard the usual Dragon Tongue shout words, but over it came--in what sounded sort of like an Elvish female voice--the words "Hey, Troll-bait!" The next time it was "Hey, Slug-breath!" I am not making this up. Have I somehow accessed a hidden file or is it a mod I'm sure I've never put in the game. (No, I am not making this up.) It might have piggy-backed on something, but it really has me scratching my head trying to figure it out.

Edited to add: I just mentally pinned down the voice. I think it, and the phrases are from Imoen in Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2.

Uh. No clue Lerf. I've never used that shout even once in the entire bajillion hours I've played the game. Now, given that though - I have to say that it doesn't sound *illogical* considering what the shout is supposed to do....

If you're saying that you've never experienced the comments before, then I should point out that it's a vanilla feature of the shout. Using it makes your character shout out insults like "Hey, melon-nose!" in whatever voice they default to (MaleEvenToned for human males, FemaleEvenToned for human females, etc.) One of the few instances where the player-character actually gets to speak. :U

If it's a problem with the voice being used, then yeah, probably a mod thing.

Thank you! I thought I'd used Throw Voice before, but I guess not. I still think it's Imoen's voice from BG, though.

OH goddess.... save me. Surely not. I will NEVER use that shout then, just in case.

I believe you can also get these 'call-outs' to come from non-unique NPCs if you remove them from all factions using the console and then speak to them. Generic shared dialog comes from what factions they're in, and if an NPC has no custom dialog to fall back on, when you remove their factions you take away all dialog and possible responses. The game defaults to having the NPC use these call-outs instead... "Hey, Skeever-butt!"
