I'm not joking. I speak no lies here. I ahve trouble believing this just happened.

I'm doing the Missing In Action quest. Taking the peaceful route. I was on my way to the destination and a Dragon attacks.

I decide to ignore the dragon and keep running towards the destination.

I come across two dead Imperials and a dead High Elf with a Stray Dog next to them but I keep running. I didn't care that much at the time.

Dragon lands, I look back to see what type of dragon it is... The dog barks and I [censored] you not. The dragon dies on the spot. I think the dog one-shot it.

The dog is now my follower and I don't plan to dismiss him in fear of it doing to me what Ulfric Stormcloak did to the late Highking Torryg.

Maybe it was a big coincidence? I've had dragons land next to me and collapse dead for no reason too. Maybe it just seemed like the dog killed it but really it was this glitch?

You had it right. He was just saying Mehrunes DOG-on. Not Dagon. Its a play on his name for the dog.

It's a random world encounter.

As a lover of puns, I am deeply ashamed of myself for not picking that.

He was making a joke... He made it Dogon instead of Dagon because it was a dog.

It's possible the dragon had 0 health in mid-air, but that doesn't mean the dragon will fall from the sky. The dragon will first land, and then die.

I know this because one time I sneak attacked and 1-shotted a stationary dragon. It didn't die on the spot. It actually flew into the air for a few seconds, landed, then died.

It landed and died. Exactly. Sorry if I said it just fell. But why would it have 0 health to ebgin with? I never hit it and Guards aren't strong enough to kill it in the amount of time that passed, let alone actually hit it while it flew.

Dragons don't just exist when you see them. It could have just killed that caravan, wandered off to play with some giants and then come back when you showed up.

Has anyone figured out how to complete the missing in action quest peacefully? No one on the internet knows how to yet.

Yes, there is no peacefull way... it s a myth...

and about dogs... i met a talking dog who was part of a certain quest... he was SO powerful and i think essential, that i decided to not finish the quest but take him with me on my travels instead, for he would take out entire bandit camps on his own (adept difficulty)
