Streamline Or Similar Mod That Adjusts Fps Only In Combat?

Post » Thu Feb 24, 2011 12:57 pm

Just a quick question exactly as the title states. AFAIK, Streamline has no options to only adjust fps in combat. I am perfectly happy with ~19 fps fully modded with an i7-920 @ 4.1ghz and a 5970HD, but I gotta tell ya... Oblivion still takes the cake as the most intensive game, with mods that is. I still get some ~15fps in some places, then I turn around and I am getting 40 fps again. It is very strange, I would love to know if there is a solution to this but I think it has to do with the sheer amount of NPC's and stuff going on in the background with FCOM+++ and pretty much every other intensive mod.

I rant.

Any mods that can adjust FPS similar to what Streamline does (or not) and get me some better FPS in outdoor areas during combat?

Streamline would be perfect, BUT, it adjusts the FPS at all times with Streamsmooth and I really do not need or want that.

Thanks

Oblivion Stutter Remover is what you want. No, it is not configurable to only turn on during combat, but it works very differently than Stramline. OSR does not raise or lower or turn on or off any graphics settings. It addresses frame rates in a wholly different way. Find the thread, read the readme. I recommend it.

I have OSR, it has made the biggest difference in stability so far out of any mod. Works great, not exactly what i'm looking for however.

I'm looking for something similar to Streamline which adjusts FPS on the go but only when entering combat. I wonder if there is any way to tweak Streamline to do this?

I am not a modder, and don't know anything about scripts but it doesn't sound like it could be too hard to do? When combat is initiated, the script would activate Streamsmooth and it would revert back to default after combat.

Maybe I am searching for something that is not there, but I really hope there is something like this.

Maybe this? http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6678

Haven't tried it myself, but it looks like it's what you want.

Exactly what I was looking for, but unfortunately causes numerous issues and CTD's :(

I was looking for this at one point as well. SkyRanger-1 mentioned that such a mod would most likely conflict with OSR.
I sorta gave up after that. Good luck though :)

I use this, and i have a very stable set up. Never had a crash in combat that I have narrowed down to this.

Yeah, I still don't fully understand why I will be getting 60 fps and then I turn 180 degrees and I am getting 15 fps. I mean... that is a HUGE difference.

I'm guessing it is due to mods, and I've tried OC'ing my processor even more. It's an i7-920 @ 4.1 ghz atm but that doesn't seem to help much either, as I can't go much higher than that. I also have a 5970HD and I overclocked that about 20% and it makes no difference in Oblivion. Gives ~10fps increase in just about every other game except this one, lol.

I would make a new thread about this, but I fear it is just something that cannot be helped. I'm using just about every cpu/gpu intensive mod there is.

I am in the middle of a forest, I can see no npc's or anything in either direction. It LOOKS the same to me in every way, there aren't more QTP3 textures one way or the other but I will still not get the same fps. I can be in a crevice in the forest, and I will turn around and my fps will dive down by 45 fps, turn around again and I will be at 60 again..

Is this just a fact of life with a modded Oblivion? I have just about the fastest computer you can buy, and Oblivion is the only game that I have ever dropped below 30 fps in, and it goes to 7 fps in the market district lol! Does the game process NPC A.I. in the direction your facing or something? All I can think of is it is CPU related, as OC'ing my gpu does absolutely nothing and neither does turning off full AA/AF.

Bah, I'm ranting. It would be real nice to know what the problem is here though and maybe a way to reduce it so I at least get ~25 fps at all times.

The Oblivion engine render everything in the direction you are facing, even if it most of it is obscured.

Hmm... that's not very efficient. So this is an engine limitation then I take it?

Too bad, so if there is a horde of goblins across those rolling hills that I cannot see, then that could be causing the drastic drop in FPS?

Or... those QTP3 textures forts usually cause a big FPS hit too. So a fort beyond the mountain in the grids to load range will be effecting my fps even though it is in no way visible? :(

It depends on the range also. Creatures and NPCs won't be redered past a certain distance.
But I have really felt the effect in dungeons with 40+ actors. 60 FPS when facing in one direction and 10-15 FPS when turning around...
