Street Magician

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 7:40 pm

heres an idea
have some random dude in a city conning people into thinking he's a magician, if your an illusionist you can show him being a fraud,a sneaky fellow you can steal one of his props and show everyone, or if you a combat person you can force him to talk
his name Angel Christine
think they should do it?
ig88 put it in better words then me
Perhaps this street magician could be conning people by doing something that is impossible by Nirn's conventions of magic? I mean for example, he could be faking 100% revival of a dead "volunteer", completely restored to his/her former self, after killing him/her right in front of the crowd. It could then turn out that he was using a paralysis, a weak-sauce combat spell, and some healing to offset the spell's damage, and then casting dispel to "reanimate" the "dead" "volunteer". For icing on the cake it could turn out that the "mage" really knows nothing about magic and was actually using scrolls he obtained from someone to use for his little scheme.

No. People know how to do magic in Tamriel. It's no secret.

If someone was foolish enough to think that would be worth doing at all, it would be a Bosmer.

Of course their are people who can't do magic, but no one is going to be impressed if he faked or not. they'd just keep walking by like he's a loon.

now if he started detachings arms and legs and had them floating independantly ok.

I actually don't think anyone is incapable of doing magic. Magicka is inherited from Aetherius--the Sun. If it's possible for someone to be incapable of performing magic, I've certainly never heard of it.

nope pretty much everyone with magicka so unless they were born under the atronach and out of magika, they will be able to use it, however there are some races that cannot preform magic as well as others

Even those born under the sign of the Atronach can use magicka, it just doesn't automatically replenish itself and they have to rely on potions and absorb magicka spells.

It wasn't possible for many classes in Arena, but I doubt that has any place in current lore.

Probably not. It was probably only like that for the sake of gameplay and balance. It wouldn't make sense for ones class to dictate whether or not they have access to magicka and the ability to make use of it.

I'm sure there are some people in Tamriel that don't know any magic spells, but that doesn't mean they are not capable of using them at all.

Everyone has the potential to use magic. Not everyone can do anything with their magicka.

If he's got a philosopher's stone, then the guy must have quite a high skill in alchemy... and alchemy is a magic skill in TES series, right? :P

Not anymore, guy must be super stealthy. :P

I do not care for this idea, mainly because A) Magic is already in the game and b.) it's such a little niche of an idea I can't see the devs pouring any time into it.

Everyone on Nirn has the physical/mental/whatever ability to do magic, but not everyone CAN do magic.

Just like everyone on Earth could run a 5 minute mile or bench press 300 pounds (well, males anyway) but not everyone is willing to put the effort into it.

Not a magician, but I like the idea of a con artist. The Siren's Deception was one of my favourite quests in Oblivion.

Sounds fine. The only way the world makes sense is that the vast majority of people don't know how to make use of magic. If it was easy and widely performed, there would be no purpose to ranged weaponry like bows, since you could just train up some Destruction casters.

That would be cool if you could draw a crowd interested in seeing you do something entertaining with magicka. I can just see them all excited and cheering, then unleashing a catastrophic fireball of epic proportion on them all.

I can't help myself I'm anti-social.
