[RELz] Striking Staves v1.2

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 2:51 am

Hey,

Just finished updating another old mod, Striking Staves.

Spoiler
This mod changes a number of staves (or "staffs", if you prefer) to make them cast their enchantment on strike, at a range. In other words, you can cast a staff's enchantment by just swinging the weapon, rather than readying it in the menu and casting with your hands.

The mod works by significantly increasing the reach of the staves. The problem with this technique is that the physical damage of the staves is dealt to the targeted enemy, even from very far away, as well as the enchantment; to fix this, the physical damage has been taken away from the staves, but more charges have been added to make up for it. The more damage a staff dealt, the more charges have been added.

Because the phyiscal damage of staves has been removed, only staves with enchantments that actually deal some sort of damage are affected, otherwise certain staff-wielding players would be unable to deal any damage whatsoever.

Since the staves are now completely based around their enchantments, they are scripted so that your chance to hit with them is based on your Enchant skill, rather than your Blunt Weapon skill (to be more precise, when you equip a staff, your Blunt Weapon skill will be reduced to zero and then increased based on your Enchant skill).

In addition, I have made a variety of "Unenchanted Staves" that have this long-reach property; this means you can enchant your own staves to cast on strike at a range. Some of these Unenchanted Staves can be bought at most Mages' Guilds; the rarer ones are hidden in secret locations (spoilers below).

Finally, this mod adds a number of new enchanted staves that have been added to leveled lists, meaning you can find them randomly along with other loot. You can also find some Unenchanted Staves in this way.

WARNING: Because of the long reach, it is possible to hit NPCs without meaning to, even if you're not aiming directly at them. Take care when swinging the weapons in towns!

Is this similar to the staffs you'll use in Oblivion?

Congrats to your old release. :P Thanks for sharing. :celebration:

That's quite a shock for the player. :whistling:

Yeah, pretty much. Maybe I should say something like that in the description...

Pretty neat. Might I suggest not changing the existing staves, but making new ones like this? Many players like standard staves too. Maybe add them to leveled lists or make them available at shops?
