I am wondering if Skyrim will be like Fallout 3.

There are some TES insults I seem to remember from Morrowind, though I wouldn't mind some real word cursing if it fits.

I'd be for it. The language in FO3 made for some pretty great moments, especially comeing from Mayor Mcready and the like.

No thanks, it would grate on my ears and not fit the world.

things like "You N'wah!!!" would be fine, but others that fit the realm of Skyrim

Agreed with Neko here. But it does have to fit with the settings, we don't want too much of it. Also lore based ones are good too.

More games should go the route that Battlestar Galactica went as far as strong language goes. Frack, I mean we all know what it means, but it avoids harsh ratings, can be said on TV and somehow doesn't offend people.

You already have strong language. They are called Dragon Shouts and have a pretty strong effect :P

On a more serious note, I wouldn't enjoy modern day curse and swear words as they have no place in a fantasy game world in my opinion. A fantasy equivalent like the 'You N'wah!' from Morrowind was perfectly acceptable however.

Avatar matches perfectly.

On topic: I agree with the general consensus. swearing doesn't bother me, but only if it actually fit in the game world. Like Lane, I can always provide the curses I find necessary

A small note of caution regarding this topic. Our forum rules still prohibit the use of certain words, so please leave the examples at the door. Unless you'd like to get an official warning for your trouble.

Just because a topic wants to discuss strong language doesn't give you a ticket to start avoiding the autocensor.

Thanks ;)

I wouldn't like to hear swearing in Skyrim, at least not the usual ones we all know and love. Curse words that fit the story and TES universe don't bother me.

I'd rather them not be cursing (as much as FO:3 or FO:NV). Not that I find it offensive, I just felt that it was overbearingly leaning toward cussing in most of all the dialogue. Instead of making moving, tangible dialogue to fit with the emotion of what was going on, just throw a few profanities in there. Yah... No, I'm ok. I would be for maybe some more cursing then, say, Oblivion. But not anywhere near the scope of the Fallout Series.

I think the dragons shouts would work better than swearing :)

An yes, I prefer that they use strong language in their own setting, calling you mudcrab and pregnant cow and swear to gods or daedra. Modern street language would fitt as well in the setting as shotguns.

Yes, but with taste.
Strong language, if used properly, can actually make game very good and rise immersion level very high.
Having 'sterile' language is dumb, unfitting and would ruin the game.
Actually, all this advlt stuff like gore, nudity, strong language, etc. can actually improve a game if done properly.
Words, like damn, bastard, ass, crap, etc would fit in the game in my opinion.
F-word, S-word and similar, hmmm, not so sure.
I like their fantasy versions better.

As long as it's appropriate. I'd like caravan guards to have a nice collection of "swaer words". Something like N'wah! As long as it fits in and isn't swaer words by todays standards, then it's all cool. Filthy oaf!!

Elderscrolls is Elderscrolls and Fallout is Fallout. Why would Bethesda suddenly introduce profanity in Elderscrolls when it hasn't been a part of that series at all? The reason there is profanity in Fallout is because that is a part of that series.

I would hope that a different world than ours would have more creative and colorful swear words than ours.
