Strongest military force in the post-apocalyptic wastes?

Post » Sat Oct 26, 2013 9:47 pm

Wasteland War I breaks out, which army wins?
For the factions from New Vegas, treat each as if they'd won the Second Battle for Hoover Dam. I'm interested in each army's potential, so let's treat each of them as best-case-scenario for their condition.

Gogogo vote vote vote, and of course feel free to post your reasoning as to why you voted the way you did.

The New California Republic. They would have easily won the First Battle for Hoover Dam if not for what happened at the Divide. They don't even want to fight the Legion, they simply wanted to contain the Legion. So that and what happened at the Divide is why Caesar got his second shot for Hoover Dam. The NCR has a huge territory and their population is very large for the wasteland.

They are organized, they use standardized equipement. They produce weapons, ammo and have doctors. They have already taken on the Orginal Brotherhood and are winning, sent a whole chapter underground. They took out Navarro, which couldn't have been easy.

I would love to say the Midwestern Brotherhood, but sadly we don't know much about them. What ending to Tactics if any will be made canon. At the hight of their power, they could have easily taken on the NCR, but that's because the NCR was still in its infancy. The Legion wasn't even around then, hell Lyons wasn't even born yet.

It's probably going to be NCR.
They have the size, tech and resources to outlast the others.

NCR for sure. They have size, a production means (Gun Runners), and arguably better training than everyone but BOS. Ashur's Pitt comes to a close second due to production means and a healthy but not as big of an army as the NCR (Under the assumption the cure works). The Free Eco Zone of NV comes in third due to it's strength only being defensive because of the limited Securitron range.

NCR. They have the most potential out of all the choices imo.

For right now, The NCR. But once Vegas will be able to build Securitrons they will be unstopable. Also the Courier has tech from Big MT which could help out alot.

NCR easily with the Legion or MWBoS being second.

I'm going with the Midwestern Brotherhood because I refuse to believe anything else but the Barnaky ending is canon. Meaning the MWBOS has a:

1. Population to rival the Legion and NCR
2. Strong military mix of calculator robots and veteran Brotherhood Paladins.

But we know the Legion has been victorious in a few skirmishes with them, so I think they are about the same level as the legion.

Assuming there is no Courier, I'd still go with NCR no matter what. They have production, the numbers, the land, the resources. The only thing they lack, is quality leaders. All it takes is one person
though to shift the balance.

Had they not been sabotaged from within, the Master's Supermutant Army would have gotten my vote.

Chicago to the presumed location of Vault 0 is about 1500 KM. Flagstaff to the same point is about 720 KM. Colorado probably has a much higher Legion presence then the the Midwest BoS, despite the invasion of Denver being costly for the Legion. The BoS probably only saves the power armour and the powerful weapons for their best soldiers. They don't want to risk losing their equipment to their enemies.

In my mind, the "big three" factions currently would be the NCR, the Legion, and the MWBOS. Depending on the circumstances, if they met in combat either of them could theoretically come out on top.

Still, I'd be more willing to put money on the MWBOS as the faction most likely to succeed.

I would agree that one of those t.hree would win.

But as for the MWBoS this is all assuming a endinh has happened. In fallout 3 it mentions the MWBoS have fallen on hard times and Lyon's chapter couldn't even find them. So I don't think it looks too good for them.

I non-bias-ly voted Caesar's Legion based on their previous success when conquering the 86 tribes (and tribe doesn't necessarily mean people with spears in loin cloths) and their relentlessness and brutality seen in New Vegas, assuming them winning the Dam would give them a higher chance of victory then I think they would most likely win, considering that they would probably win the second battle of Hoover Dam without the couriers help (I'm not saying they wouldn't lose after that, but they would probably win at the Dam). Yes, they could definitely take New Vegas, but the question is, can they keep it?

Assuming the NCR doesn't get their [censored] together soon than I doubt they'd be competent enough to re-take New Vegas after the Legion's occupation, which is an important strategic location for both sides. That said, if the NCR actually did get a leader that's fit to be a president, which is possible, because if the courier wasn't involved at all in this hypothetical situation, he wouldn't be able to stop the Legion from assassinating President Kimball, which could lead to a competent and non-corrupt president replacing him, then they would stand more of a chance.

I don't know, it's a tough choice, if the NCR really thought New Vegas was an important place to them, why are almost all of their troops so incompetent that they have to rely on the Courier to hold their hand and show them how to fight giant ants and how to throw a grenade properly, if the rest of their troops are like this, I don't think they stand a chance, if they're not, why don't they send those guys in to fight the Legion (Veteran rangers seem pretty rare)?
So, if the NCR does have real soldiers back West, then they have a good chance of winning, but if the Barnaky ending is canon like Andronicus said, everyone is pretty much screwed if the MWBoS has Behemoths.

I went on Google Earth, found Colorado Springs, and drew a line to Chicago. It rounded out to about 1500 kilometres/930 miles in a straight line.

As far as we know it's the NCR... They have the numbers, the supplies, but they could very well end up destroying themselves. The NCR is pretty close to prewar government... and from what you hear in New Vegas... it's not without it's corruption... so maybe in the future an uprising may happen... and from the ashes a new government may take hold... but for now... The NCR are it
