Stuck In The Cart At The Beginning

Post » Sat May 19, 2012 2:37 am

I was excited today to go get Skyrim - deciding to not get it on PC but Xbox 360.... got it home, installed the update (although this failed twice until I cleared my system cache), and started the game.

So there I am in the cart, 1 guys speaks briefly, the other speaks briefly, other than that, just the sounds of the horse and carriage... then we get into a town, where a kid's dad tells him to go inside.

The cart drives up to a wall and stops. Then that's it - no more. I'm just sat in a cart - I can look round, if I press A I see 'Your hands are bound'... but that's it, nothing else.

On one of the 9 times I've restarted the game so far, I got out of the cart and selected my race and name, then it stopped again - no crash, still got the sound of horses, and I can still look round - but the game appears to be stuck in time

As you might imagine, after several years of looking forward to this day, I feel somewhat deflated... Having an op on my foot in 90 mins, so was going to be laid up playing Skyrim... at the moment, this plan has problems!

I tried installing the game to my hard drive, but it won't read the full disc - gets so far and stops with a disc unreadable. I've also tried the remove disc and close tray so the laser resets... but that hasn't worked

Can anyone help please? I don't have problems reading any other games discs.

Could be a faulty disc.

If you can't install the game then there must be a problem with either your 360 or the disc. I would guess the problem is with the disc.

So try exchanging for a new disc

I have a similar issue on the PC version. Installed the game and go to launch, to find the loading screen is displaying a large red blob in place of the Skyrim logo. I get through the opening dialogue but when my character goes toeave the cart it is caught within the front unable to move. No matter how many times I've tried I can not make it past the firs second of the game.

Grief!

Point is I don't think it's your disc if I am having the same issue with an install from steam.

These all sound like disc issues. I've been looking around for all the different types of glitches and this is the rarest by far.

I'm also stuck in the cart, but I can't even hear the opening dialogue. Total silence except for ambient music. I pre-ordered from Amazon.

I'm in the same cart as OP.
It is not the disc however since I went and got a new one a couple hours ago.
Different xbox accounts give me different results and so do different resolutions (720p freezes everything except the sound 1/3 of the time).
non-xbl accounts seem to work better until I get to the wall where it all fails miserably regardless of what settings are used or lucky charms balanced on the xbox.

I have the same issue... restarted multiple times, cleaned disc. Restarted console... everything... and still nothing works. jsut me sitting in the friggin' cart. How long did the test this? This is a significant glitch. I know the 'elder scrolls' have some history (been playing them since the beginning) with glitches... but this is significant. i'm going to try installing the game now, we'll see if I can get past it then..

feel free to message me if anybody figures out a way to get it to work...

It wasn't the disc in my case, it would seem - it was the Xbox - I'd been given a white non-slim XBox with 60GB drive by a pal who just emigrated... unable to get Skyrim running on it, and with a few days laid up to play it cos I've just had a foot op, I decided to get the Gears of War edition XBox I'd been thinking about ever since it came out!

Skyrim works fine on the new Xbox. I imagine that suggests the laser might be going on the older one.

I also have the same problem. Up until this point, all of the games in my library worked 100% but for some reason, I can't get past the intro for this game. I have tried everything from clearing my cache, installing updates to my dashboard and the updates for skyrim via XBL but nothing.

I think that it's a disgrace that a game of this calibur should fail so epically. I'm forced to sell my Black 120 Gigg Xbox 360 Elite so I can purchase the newer Xbox 360 S. Hopefully I won't have the same problem as the sales person at the store where I bought the game tested it on the newer console and it played 100%

Guess that's Microsoft way of making more money by forcing you to upgrade

So you think MS paid or bullied Bethesda into this rare bug just so you and a small handful of others would have to upgrade their consoles? Yep, that's it right there!

*sigh*

Wait, are you serious? You are buying a new console? I have the black 360 elite from about two years ago and mine works fine. Why would you exchange your disk before getting a new console?

Is it possible that your disc is defective - with the exception of this game - due to the texture problem, I always install games to the hdd...I believe this will tell you if the disc is defective - and it sounds like yours is defective...I especially install used games for this very reason...I'd take it back for an exchange...good luck with the surgery...I'd be bummed too - almost looking forward to the post-op downtime with some Skyrim...

I Have the same problem. My XBox is a couple year old Arcade with minimal usage. Other users here posted this same problem even after exchanging the game for a new one. I have to believe it's an old hardware related issue. In other words if your console is not up to date, it won't be up to snuff to play Skyrim.

This is not a disc issue. I have started a character and played through level 17 and wanted to start a new one and have the hung in the cart issue everytime I've tried.

Really after laying out 80 bucks for the game and manual and the game is this buggy. I quit WoW because they couldn't get their act together, but at least they have the excuse of different PC and hardware configurations. I'm not buying into the problem is in our Xbox's. We have three in my house alone, My son has a two year old elite unit, My daughter has a two day old unit, my is about a year old, and all of us have issue with the game glitching or locking up. The issue is in the software not the disc or the Xbox's.

How much room is on your HDD? I'm just thinking all this is hdd space maybe not being read right by the cache or something? I had 30 gb's left on my 120 gig hard drive.. (plenty of space right?) Got the texture issue that everybody's been talking about. So I went in and uninstalled every other game I had.. (left skyrim installed.) 80gigs of space and no texture issues.

I have no idea why that would be the problem seeing how this has been happening on pc and ps3... but for fun, try clearing your cache.. uninstalling all that you can to free up as much space as you can and see if it allows you to get past the carriage start.

I have to agree. I also tried it on my brothers Xbox Elite and it encountered the same issues. It's definitely some sort of software glitch which I hoped that Bethesda would of fixed with the launch day patch but sadly it didn't. I have been seriouly looking forward to this game and the only option I have left is to buy the new Xbox 360 S console and cross my fingers that it will run without any problems.

Regardless of patches, a game should run fine without needing to patch coz the hardware should be identical.

I don't really have much of a choice. It's either sit with a game that doesn't work as the store where I bought it from will probably refuse to give me a new disc as they tested it on their console and it worked fine or get the newer console and solve the problem without all the frustration.

Just want to know, did you get an secondary disc with your copy which had an update for the game or did the update load automatically when you started the game?

The patch is on the game disk. Should ask you to update immediately upon starting the game.

Have any of you tried deleting the game data off your hard drive? Maybe the patch didn't install correctly?

The damndest thing happened. Was shooting a video on my ipod touch to take to the store to show the kind of issues I'm having and low and behold the game actually let me get to the character creation screen. After creating my character, it struggled to get past the next scripted sequence. I tried installing to the hard drive just to see if it would and finally it installed and the game is running with no further issues.

To answer your question, yes I have cleared the cache more than once and downloaded the patch via XBL but I guess all it takes is perseverence to get somewhere with this game. Still... shocking that the game is this buggy even after patching.

Best of luck to all of you and happy gaming ^_^
