Stuck with the 10 races?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 12:30 am

In Skyrim, we will see the same ten races we're familiar with, and no new ones. It's not inconcievable I suppose that in some future Elder Scrolls game, Bethesda might add a new playable race to the list, after all, orcs and Imperials weren't playable until Morrowind, before then, it was just eight races, so there's certainly precedence for adding new playable races, but that isn't happening in Skyrim, and if it ever does happen, it will probably be a race that already exists in the lore but has not actually appeared in any games, at least not as a playable race, that's added, since the Elder Scrolls has a well established canon, and you can't just have never before seen races appear out of nowhere and expect it to make sense, even making an already present non-playable race playable requires some explaining, as you need to tell us why races that were previously hostile, or at least not connected, to normal society are now walking amongst the other races freely, but that's easier to adress than a never before estsblished race just suddenly being there, and I can't think of any known canine races in the Elder Scrolls. If you want to play as a canine of any sort, your only option is werewolves if you can't have mods. At least in the case of Skyrim, if you're not satisfied with the original races, there's not much you can do if you're stuck with a console version, unless somehow we actually get player made mods on the consoles.

technically they should also only see in black and white but that would make playing a khajiit very dull.

Its like infrared vision. That is why a zebra has black and white stripes as the lion can't see them yet anyone with colour vision can see them a mile away. How the Zebra genes worked that out I'll never understand

I could explain it to you, but you might not agree with me. Pretty cool though, huh?

Anyway, OT: If there were to be some awesome expansion, or more likely one of the next TES installments in Black Marsh, there would be the faint possibility of seeing or playing as a Lilmothiit. However that would be just about as unlikely as being any of the Akaviri races because the Lilmothiit are supposedly extinct and the Akaviri races are just up for speculation. It would be pretty cool to get to meet one though, and being a fox-like beast race would be pretty awesome, I'd say. They probably went the way of the Dwemer, though, meaning there will be none left anymore.

I see no other solution other than getting the PC version and hope someone makes a mod for it...

I don't know if you will be able to become a werewolf or a werebear in the vanilla game, but if you can, maybe that can be a solution for you without needing a PC version.

I'm fine with 10 races though... I don't know if there is much lore for any other races except for very rare or extinct ones. And there is of course always the argonian and khajiit subtypes, they would be cool to see.

You're pretty much correct in my opinion, however wouldn't you agree that Feline goes parallel to Canine. Yes I'm pushing it but it just does seem kinda one sided, ask anyone and they'll say that cat is opposite to dog...

Right, but then you get into people saying 'well whats the opposite of a lizard?'. and now you have people trying to come up with a race of birds, or frogs, or fish. its a slippery slope, my friend. Chances for a canine race are about as good as you winning the lottery, only you get to play once every four years.
