Stuff I Found out at PAX

Exactly what I was thinking. Why carry 100 different ammo types, especially in hardcoe, when you only need one for some extremely powerful Energy Weapons? J.E. Sawyer mentioned in another thread that plasma weapons were going to be pretty much the most powerful weapons in any given "tier".

Well I'm sure the ammo is going to be more rare and expensive to balance it all out.

Once you've played the game a while you'll know what weapon & certain ammo suits you best,or you'll like the best.
I think its good to have all different types of ammo & be able to make it,its something else we get to tinker with...nothing wrong with that.
If there is certain ammo you dont like ,you dont use it or buy it,but it can still be sold...& with the DT in ,it may help with different enemies.
Good option in my opinion :)

Well that's the problem with the sandbox that fallout have.
Either you fill it out so it doesn't seem too empty or you have it being a barren wasteland with nothing in it.
A balance in between is hard to create.
I just hope that all Ammo Crates are gone.

Why do you hope all ammo crates are gone?

Because:
1. it's been 203 years, most of them should have been worn out.
2. makes no sense for a random ammo crate on a table to not be looted or for it to be there in the first place.
3. since there was so many of them you just got craploads of ammo without having to do anything for them, killing a raider at least poses a challenge, you have to spend ammo to get ammo.

I mean, if a wastelander had some .22 bullets in a metal box or something it could make sense but almost everyone had ammo crates.
How?
How do almost every wastelander and his dog have an ammo crate?
Did the army have a huge sale on them before the great war?
Are they made from some strange foreign world material seeing as none of them have degraded under the 200 years that has past?
Oh and why the hell does every single one of them have ammo in them?
I mean, so just because it's an ammo crate it rejects anything else bing put inside of it?
How come I could never find an ammo crate with some mirelurk cakes in?
Or one with some cigarette packages in it?
Or how about this, finding an ammo crate that is.... Wait for it... Empty!

They pissed me off, logic-wise, lore-wise and balance-wise.

I was collecting the stuff. I didn't want to fire it because that would mean using some of my carefully acquired ammo. :(

I'ts okay, thats exactly why I never used it. In my mind, anytime it fires is a wasted collectible.

Ah, my kin! I knew that I wasn't alone. The only question is whether or not New Vegas' Alien Power Cells will be nearly as rare. I'd bet that they will be.

There's a careful balance that needs to be created. Alien Power Cells should not be easy to find (They're Alien Power Cells) but that means that the lack of ammo has to be made up for in some other way, such as making the Alien Blaster extremely powerful. It's either that or you make the Alien Blaster rather weak and make the cells easy to find.

The Casdin glitch? I could use the console to give me however many I want as well, but I don't do that. That defeats the purpose of collectibles.

Nope.
Not that one. I said anytime anywhere. Well, almsot anytime anywhere.
Anytime anywhere were there are humanoid enemies and at least 2+ of them.
I don't really consider the power cells collectibles.
The gun itself is one but the ammo, nah.
They were just limited to balance it out.

Hmmm... Reverse pick-pocket the Blaster and one power cell? Since NPC's have infinite ammo once you start combat with them they will equip the Alien Blaster. Kill them and they will drop it full of fresh cells. Am I right? I believe that it was something along those lines. I haven't needed to use exploits in a long time, not since I got the PC version.

The fact that they're limited makes the collectibles. At least in my mind.

To the bold part. This is the fallout world we're talking about and in that world, even after 200 years ammo doesn't lose its effectiveness, food never spoils, and nothing degrades, except paint.

Just pointing that out. :)

You'll be fine. All you'll get is one, maybe two crippled legs, nothing a stimpack won't fix. Unless you have your life set to hardcoe, then you'll need to use a doctors bag instead.

Well, to be fair, anywhere with ammo boxes and living humans, we could always just assume the humans were using the ammo box as a cache for ammo. That's what I assume, just like with unlooted medical supplies.
