Stupid CoC is Stupid.

Has anyone noticed this?

Through-out the game, the CoC, no matter how high His/her intelligence will for gullibly for the most obvious tricks? Take lorgren beniren for example....Yeah buddy...Of course I'm gonig to give the powerful lich of pure souless malevolence his hand back so that he can be "At peace with the Nine NYAR NYAR NYAR". Also, there was that orc with the boat. Seriously, its obvious that he kidnapped him, Why do you go stright into an obvious trap?

There are loads of examples of this, what i want to know...What's the lore reason for the CoC being down a few brain cells? Gullable? And innocent as a baby lamb even if he sluaghters towns?

But then you don't get the house. If the CoC was smart there would have been more cunning options.
How cunning milord?
Quite cunning.

There weren't really any other leads though, in either case.

This is not an issue of in-game backstory as it is of gameplay mechanics.

Well Oblivion was full of example like this, despite being able to go anywhere and blah blah blah, when it comes to how the quest plays out we are just along for the ride.

If you want an in-game explanation... he/she's one of only a handful of prisoners in all the land, obviously not picking up on something. I think a better question is why everyone in Cyrodiil follows such an obvious fool!

I know at least one Morrowind quest allowed you to bypass an entire investigation sequence with a high enough Intelligence to recognize a bilingual pun that the criminal (an escaped slave) was using as a cover.

See, this is where that one crazy guy from the Age of Decadence team shows up and starts prattling on about "ZOMG TEH CHOICEZ N CONSEQUENCES!!11!11!!1!"

Agreed.

I have always felt the CoC knows exactly what is happening but feels obligated to see the quest out. The root of the obligation is entirely for you, the player, to decide. Greed (I want this house), morality (maybe he will be at peace with the Nine), vengeance (go ahead and resurrect and I'll kick your butt), and so forth.

No, it was the argonian, who was posing as a guide to help this slaver look for his slave, who was actually the guide in Suran. If you are also playing an argonian, you instantly know that the guide is the slave.

If it's any consolation, most of the other NPCs in Oblivion aren't much smarter, and a majority of the quests (especially the guild questlines) are just thinly veiled http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/IdiotPlot with the player in the middle.

This problem isn't to do with lore or gameplay mechanics, it's just poor story design. Make the main characters retarded so you can justify the existence of a conflict that needs solving. There wouldn't be much substance to the Mage's Guild storyline if Traven didn't ban necromancy and persecute its practitioners, for example.

I remember the Mages Guild quest where the count's servant told you the count would meet you in 2 am outside the city. WTF?! Obviously a trap. Sure, he is a vampire, but come on.

Another problem with that is the fact that you don't have choices. How does the game expect a vampire hunter to let it go because the vampire is a count?

Coc in stupid voice: "Doi, you say you good vampire, i guess i not stake you then. Me hit head off wall now."

Given that the CoC ends up the prince of madness, I'd assume that (lore-wise) the reason he is so gullible has to do with the fact that he is already Sheogorath touched. A little crazy. Probably why he was locked up in the first place.

There's a diffrence between stupid and crazy, some of the coc's acts can be explained by madness, others can't.

Still I think the reasons have pretty much already been said: Greed, morality, vengeance as well as game mechanics.

Wha?

How can greed, morality, vengance and whatnot explain stupidity?

That's not the point the point is that those could be more or less the reasons CoC does anything.

I would just like to point out that the Return of the Jedi plot is not an idiot plot. I explain all issues and problems therein with one word: Sith. 'nuff said.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled Elder Scrolls discussion.

And CoC = Champion of Cyrodiil. More cannot be said without spoilers.
