Stupid question about pre-ordering

Post » Fri Feb 04, 2011 10:30 am

I've never pre-ordered a game before, but what are the pros and cons? If I pre order, will they deliver the game to my house or will I have to pick it up?
That is actually my main question, (I know it's stupid but please... no insulting :swear: )

EDIT- Thanks, and I'll most likely get it from Gamestop or EB Games.

I've all ready pre-orderd mine! cant wait

But to answer your question it depends were you buy it from really, most online websites will sell new items at a slightly cheaper price than what they would do in store, so to save money and the hastle of walking into a shop to get the game, just get it deliverd... all though I'd only pre-order it from some one whos reliable and get their products to you either early or on time and arent late on the delivery.

Then again the downside to pre-ordering online is that theirs all ways the chance that it could arive late as the delivery system is never full proof, so for a bit extra cash, pre-order the product in a game store and make sure your their on its release date to collect it other wise if you dont, they may just sell it on... the other thing about collecting pre-orderd games in store as well is that not only are they 100% guaranteed, but some times you might receive the odd promotional gift with your game like extra content, a free t-shirt etc. you dont get that with online purchases I find unless its something thats allready included with the product.

As for me, I already work in an electronics store so I'll be collecting it early lol :celebration:

I think it depends on where you live. Where I live you unfortuneately have to pick it up. But I see that as a good thing though cause' I won't have to wait for my mail to come at 330 in the afternoon when I can get it at 9 in the morning or possibly if they have a midnight release...12 in the morning

From my understanding you will have to pick it up. Also, I find pre-ordering very stupid, so I will pass on it.

I don't really see the point of pre-ordering.

I'll just buy it the day it comes out

One, we have a bunch of these threads. Two, this is really more about reserving games and not Skyrim. Three, there's no reason to give some shady company like GameStop an interest free loan, unless there's some sort of pre order bonus.

Depends on where you preorder it from. Gamestop, you'll have to pick it up. Some others might deliver, but that'd take a while unless you pay more for faster shipping.

But when you preorder, you run the risk of paying for a game months in advance, getting it, and not liking it.

I preordered Mass Effect 2, was not at all impressed and wished I would have waited to read some reviews and/or try it out at a friend's or something. Not saying Skyrim is going to be a disappointment, but with the industry the way it is, it's always a possibility.

The only pre-ordering I've ever done is on Steam for digital games, bought FO:NV a couple of days before release so that I could download it in advance (as that takes a few hours on my connection) and install and play it more or less straight away at the hour of release (1am here). I was creating my first character in FO:NV 8 hours before the local game shop opened, and 12 hours before my post is usually delivered!

For that reason I am pretty sure I will be getting Skyrim the same way - every extra hour I have to wait is an hour of torture...

Oh... well. hmmm....

The main point of it is to reserve a copy for yourself on release day, JUST IN CASE you're unable to get to a retailer in time. You know, if they by chance sell out.

If i pre-order, i pre order from amazon. They deliver it to my door the day of release, get pre-order bonuses, and dont charge me till it ships. Not to mention i have 0 tax, no shipping costs, and usually get it cheaper than what i could get it elsewhere. (for example i am getting dragon age 2 10$ less than anywhere else)

Well, I don't know about where you live, but at EB you can put a deposit down, and add payments as often as you like. I prefer this, than having to lose a lump sum of money all at once.

Preordering is just a thrill that I reserve for games I'm really looking forward to. :P In some cases, you get free stuff just by pre-ordering - I got a giant Skyrim poster for putting my order down.

The game store i get most of my stuff has a nice system.
I preorder a game, assuring me of having the limited edition if i so desire, pay a small percent in advance as collateral.
U get points on your card with every purchase in the store, preorders offer a bonus on top of those points, and lately they got the offer of getting preordered special edition games for the same price as the regular edition.
Theyre the second fastest to have any game (except for 1 wich is a LOT pricier so meh) theyre collection is the biggest in the region and their prices are excellent.
All things considdered,i think i know why i still live in this dump of a country :D

It depends from where you've ordered it from.
Online from most will deliver it too your door, or you can buy it from steam.
If you don't live near a store it's great, or if you like to know someone won't get to it before you also.

From stores it's different, basically you pay up front for a contract that may or may not actually guarantee they hold up to it if you delay pick up.
They also hold onto your money instead of gaining interest for you it'll go to them.

On the mildly plus side certain larger stores carry contracts to give dlc out for pre ordering.

So really it's up to you how you order, how much money you have.
Don't forget pre order can be made at anytime before release.. you don't have to decide for a few months now.

If this game sells like Black Ops did, you'll want to pre-order it. I pre-ordered New Vegas but not Black Ops, and ended up getting the very last copy of BO in Walmart. I think Skyrim will sell out of most stores in the first day.

i always not only pre order but pre buy my games
i will be paying off skyrim this month and upgrade to the collectors when it comes out
there are times when a game is popular, u may have to wait to get it if u do not pre order it
i will bet skyrim will be one of those games
and i like the pre order goodies as well

one of the ones i am getting for dragon age is the first dlc/ free since i did the very early pre order
any one who buys on release day must pay to get that dlc

i have other reasons as well... but enough for now

Pre-Order for sure, do a midnight pick up if available hehe :P but you can pre-order from gamestop and downpay 5$ min or you can downpay the whole game at once, as soon as its out your copy will be awaiting you at the store(specially for you)

There almost always is. Especially with a game like Skyrim.

It's often cheaper, it'll guarantee you a copy (useful if you get the CE, those often sell out), and they come with pre-order bonuses most of the time. You can have it delivered depending on who you buy it from. I'll probably get it from EB games so I'll have to pick it up.

I think I'm going to the midnight release, but only because it's a TES game and it comes out on a Friday. That depends on my Dad though, it's his call. Unless I get my G1 and G2 by then, which won't happen because I don't even turn 16 untill May. So yeah, it's up to my Dad.
