Stupid things you did on your 1st playthrough

One of the NPCs I changed was Princess from Little Lamplight.
So I got to Little Lamplight, quicksaved, and blasted her head off with the Terrible Shotgun.

"Bottle caps, what the hell are these good for?" Yep, I left a good bit of caps behind by not taking them out of containers. At the time, FO3 was the first Fallout I had played. So I had no idea.

Found out it is possible to use cars for cover - they just have to be burned out cars. So, avoid any cars/trucks/buses/etc. with good paint jobs.

There are some safe cars with paint on them still, and some unsafe ones that look like they're safe based on the paint. The real thing to look for is the reactor, located where the trunk would be. If it looks intact, it's a live car; if it's missing, it's either dead or has already exploded. For trucks, it's the engine compartment, same deal. For buses, the only safe ones are the ones that aren't whole. When buses explode, they leave nothing behind, so it's only the ones that are placed as half-buses (like in the trailer) which you can enter, that are safe.

Motorcycles should be avoided too, but they don't explode as powerfully since they're gasoline-powered instead of atomic.

I did the Replicated Man by just turning in the android component and not speaking to Harkness or Pinkerton. Oddly enough, Victoria Watts gave it to me when I was in Germantown...

Hrmmm. I just (still on my first runthrough) did that... didn't seem stupid. I reckon I might meet this android eventually. What would Harkness or Pinkerton have added to the feelgood experience?

I didn't know you could disarm and pick up mines set up in the game, so when I went to Minefield for Moira, I attempted to run through as fast as I could. It would have worked if it wasn't for Arkansas and those cars.

Fallout 3 was my first PC shooter so throughout my entire first play through, I was an awful shot. I never had ammo, or caps or anything because I had to spend all my money on more ammo for my weapons....so I could miss my shots.

I thought the Hunting Rifle was amazing for the longest time. I did the Liberty Prime run with one!

Sometimes I get lazy and don't use cover while fighting. I just stand in the open spamming stim-packs while Super Mutants dump shells into me.

Cars have been my demise more times then I can count. Now I blow myself up on purpose.

I'm still on my first (and probably only) playthrough. I've completed the main quest and am working through the add-ons, so I'm not new to the game anymore.

Having said that I wondered why my Small Guns skill was only 90 for so long, so I upped it to 100 the other day, at around level 23. Now I remember why it was at 90...I haven't got the bobblehead yet :shakehead:

1. Right out of the Vault I went straight to the school and picked up almost everything I could find and didn't know how to “drop” items like burned books, etc. so I slow walked around for a looong time.

2. In Megaton I didn't realize that my home was just to the left of the entrance door and I would run down the slope and up the gangplanks and take a long left turn to get home. This went past level 20...

3. Took a while to discover the “Wait” feature as well.

4. Tried to tackle the ants at Greyditch before level 4. At lower levels I kept running out of ammo and stimpaks so I came back later at level 12 to finish the job.

I'm ashamed to admit but i only figured out about the path on the left taking you to your home in megaton last week.. I've been playing for nearly 2 years!!!

When i first started i was using the .32 pistol to take out weaker enemies before i realised the hunting rifle used the same ammo!

Ignoring repair when leveling up.

Attacked the family before i realised they weren't hostile.

Probably loads more but can't remember.

I forgot the code to turn on water purifier at the very end and after a short while, the whole place blew up so my end narrative went a bit like "oh he was a pretty good guy who didn't afraid of anything but then at the end he svcked (picture of building on fire)"

Also walking into Old Olney was a bad idea...

I killed that Ghoul who hires you to kill several people and bring their keys to him to get into Fort Constantine, I now can't find it.

Welcome to the club. For me it went waayy past level 20, like towards the end of my second playthru and around over 400 hours into the game and all the DLC. Just by chance I happened to look at a local map of Megaton trying to get somewhere and only then noticed my home’s proximity right next to the entrance where you fast travel in. It makes life a lot easier now.

Now (third playthru) when I need a traveling caravan merchant I just step outside the door to Megaton and wait up by the door for 2-3 hours until I cycle through the 4 until Crow to repair stuff I can’t repair. In the beginning I used to fast travel all over the map trying to catch up to him when it saves more time just waiting at Megaton.

I’ve never used the chems that much except rad-x, radaway, stimpacks and this playthru I’m trying to get some use out of them. I may not get the home chem lab for addictions since you can find any doctor at any time of the day and pay 50 caps an addiction cure. You can walk right in their house and wake them up at 4 am and it doesn’t seem to bother them to have a drug addict needing a cure standing next to their bed. Afterwards they ignore you and go right back to sleep.

Ignoring the spaceship that crashed in front of me and then finding out about the firelance about a week later. Oh.. and blowing megaton up. Seemed like an ok thing to do at first but Tenpenny tower just does'nt compare.

The trailer part is safe, but if the cab (where the engine is) takes too much damage, it will explode as well. It's just that the explosion will not take out the trailer too.

By "trailer" I was referring to the cinematic trailer at the beginning of each new game, not the trailer portion of a semi. Semis remain mostly intact - unlike cars, they don't even move when they explode. This also applies to other heavy trucks like the army trucks.

I always disarmed traps before i foudn teh activators :( some how my way of entering a room is not straigh liek most people my way in is off to the side and hug the wall the 1 time i did arm a trap i ran out of there because the building looked like it was going to collapse from above me (was at jury station grocery)

i dont think ive done anything stupid if i think the choice im abotu to make wont work well i save then proceed if success i continue if i get attacjed or people i diidnt want dead end up dead i reload (i dont like having excessive saves i think my current amount is 3 1 for beginning so if i make new file i dont have to start from point blank save 2 = at the part where i sit down i na chari and get svcked into another area and save 3 is the file im working on
