Stuttering Radio

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:40 am

For whatever reason, the radio music is stuttering.

It doesn't matter if I've got radio mods installed (e.g., GNR Fixes + MWTCF [100], etc.) or not. In both cases, all sound is perfect, except for radio music. That stutters, invariably. :brokencomputer:

Now, let it not be said that I don't at least try to figure things out, search, and so on, before posting! :D I did indeed search, here and elsewhere.

So, I've attempted altering two audio-related ini settings (one to begin with, then two), using K-Lite's codec tweak tool, uninstalling K-Lite, installing the Win7 Codec Pack (I'm on Win7 HP64), and installing/uninstalling a variety of mods. Each in turn; not all at once. ;)

Still no luck. :(

My sound card is an Asus Xonar Essence STX, and it doesn't give my issues with any other game, so far. Not even Oblivion, for example, though that's a very similar game. I have 4GB of DDR2 (good stuff), an e8400 @ 4GHz (100% stable), and an HD5870 (again, 100% stable). The hard drives are fine; defragged too. The system is stable as can be, in general. Everything runs fairly cool (decent case and fans help there).

I'm a bit puzzled, and stuck now, what's more. I have no idea what to try next. Any ideas?

Once this bug hit me it was terrible - I tried everything from mods on nexus, to changing all music files to various formats ... mp3, wav, etc. I tried sound card settings, game settings, ini settings - nothing worked.

Then I realized that the Creative ALchemy was not recognizing F3 for some reason and had to set it to recognize it via the regedit path. Once I did that then the stutter immediately stopped.

But you have Xonar, so ... I don't know what to suggest there.

Try this : http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/99804-radio-stutter/page__st__80__p__1845735#entry1845735.

It worked for me. Asus Xonar audio card and Windows 7 64-bit!

Thank you! That does seem to have fixed the problem. :foodndrink:

edit: Except that now, an attempt to save will CtD, every time. Hm...

You CTD every save? Never had that problem. :brokencomputer:

Can you try enabling back Fraunhoffer codec and disabling Madfilter with Installed Codec?

EDIT : Just to see if things are going back to normal.

Does it CTD even with the music turned off?

Madfilter worked on my SB Audigy. There are other issues now, like the main menu music goes skitzo as I am loading a game. But I can live with that.

Turns out there's nothing (immediately obvious...) wrong with the setup, now. And that's with the codec in question re-enabled. It was only with one save in particular being loaded, that saving again would result in a CtD. So, I simply deleted that one - must be corrupted, somehow. That's a first for me, but hey, **** happens.

What I also ended up doing, is switch from using a Bashed Patch, to... well, nothing at all, actually. I guess, with all those compatibility patches already there, it should be OK as is. I was going to create a Merged Patch, etc., but it seems unnecessary at the moment.

Anyhow, the radio songs are *not* stuttering, so thanks to all those who've posted in this thread - appreciated.
