[WIP] MW Style Daedric Bottle Openers

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 12:11 pm

The polycount is fine as it is, I don't want the quality to suffer!

Anyway, since the Daedric Mace and the Scourge use the same mesh (but different texture), do you think you could recreate this artifact as well?

Poly count remains. Daedric mace and Scourge meshes are 'slightly' different. Scourge has some extra spikes. I will make both. I made a Queen of Bats mesh over a year ago and to be honest I'm not sure where it is. I'd have to dig for it.

Will you also be recreating the Daedric Bow and Arrows?

I usually play with the sword, but I've just started a new game as a marksman (with your Chitin armor and bow set :P) and it would be nice to have a Daedric Bow that actually matches with McMuffin's armor. Hopefully you can pull it off without too much clipping with McMuffin's armor

Also, will you be doing the Daedric Dagger as well?

Working on dagger mesh now. Yes I'll be making the bow but I'm not sure why it would clip? Do other bows clip this armor?

Well it's just that with all of the spikes on the back and the big pauldrons and the red plumes on the helmet that there might be too much clipping.
I realise that some minor clipping is usually unavoidable, but if it can be avoided then all the better.

And can't wait to see the old Daedric Dagger back :P
Will these Daedric Weapons have at least the same stats as Oblivion Daedric?

I had similar issues with the Chitin helm as arrows on the back clip but that was impossible to correct without screwing up the bow animation.

I'll try to do the dagger justice. :) Yes. Same stats.

There have been several versions released but I'll probably include one for continuity.

I'm trying to keep the geometry simple so this may change when I start texturing.

Thanks. I took my 1st stab at texturing an item by hand; essentiially painting a normal map in PS. This didn't turn out so well so it looks like I'll need to create high poly models and bake normal maps. Since I use GMax I can't render-to-texture so... I'll have to export and bake offline. In fact I may have to use something else to even be able to cerate the high poly versions as GMax starts to choke @ 100K tris. I just love working on a budget. :)

Looks good, though I suppose I few extra pollies wouldn't hurt :P
Can't wait to see them textured!

Nice work on the dagger, the mesh looks just like the one from MW.

To be honest the dagger is not my favorite design from the set but then the MW Daedric items aren't overly consistent (IMO). I'm going to cut in more details in the geometry as I increase polys.

Unfortunately no. My own interest in modding has kinda wained. I've been playing with other stuff (architecture) but its gettings harder to maintain enthusiasm. RL has been a big factor too.

If it helps your enthusiasm any, thanks to your fantastic filled bookshelf resource and a little tweaking from JDFan, I now have the secret room in my house I dreamed of, hidden by a swinging bookcase. :hugs: Thank you for that and I really do hope you don't lose interest in modding. You've far to original a style and talent to stop. :foodndrink:

Back working on this. Updated the dagger mesh to cut in more details. Updated and combined all mesh screenshots in 1st post. Still interested in working with a talented texture artist that can reproduce the MW Daedric textures in hi-res. :poke: Contact me if interested.

Thanks. I was in the process of teaching myself 3DCoat but I discovered the price had doubled so I won't be buying that product which means I have no software for baking textures. Not sure what I'll be doing with these.
