Subraces within races

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:56 am

its been hinted that each race might have different body types for added customization. I think it would be cool to add another aspect to each race, kinda like morrowinds vampire clans. Lets say each race has some sort of division to each. Like the different houses of Redoran, Telvanni, etc in morrowind and the warring different factions of skyrim, each race could have other bloodlines with different abilities or racials. Khajiit could have different subraces like tigers from the jungle, more lionlike warriors from the savannah while nords could have a viking like subrace, but also a more scottish, Braveheart-esque race.(Possibly different voices too) Dark elves, as mentioned before could use the houses of morrowind. Eve online and Mass effect 2 do things like this with a little backstory resulting in different character interaction. What do you people think?

The only two races that have subtypes are the Argonians(http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Argonian) and the Khajiits(http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Khajiit) I would like to see them included though.

Not sure where OP heard that but I did hear somewhere that you'll be able to chose your body type now, if that's what he meant..

Anyway yeah it'd be pretty cool but probably not too terribly involved, if fully implemented. Probably just have it so that not everybody in the world looks exactly the same regardless of age, race, job, fighting specialization if any, so on so forth.

I forgot where I saw the post on that possibility but I remember it came up when discussing the picture of all the draugr in the cave with different body types and that was mentioned as a possible cause, hoping to alleviate the minor issue of all the NPCs of each race sounding exactly the same and looking exactly the same with the exception of facial features and clothes. I could be wrong so dont quote me on this, but I distinctly remember a quote on this and everyone was afraid that the characters would be too Fable esque and all melee combatants would eventually end up looking like roided up bodybuilders. What seemed to be common consensus, was the ability to choose the body type at the beginning, regardless of stats

Aren't most of the races already subraces? Imperials, bretons, reguard and nords are all humans, altmer, dunmer, bosmer and orcs are elves.

The previous Inception joke can now be applied again...

It's been confirmed you can change your character's body along with their face in character creation.

And then burn them all.

Isn't differing body types just talking about your characters build?

Nords are tall and built, Altmer are tall, Redguards are pretty tall, everyone else is average, bosmer are short.

I think that's what he was getting at.

Is there any Argonian screenshots? Sub-races only exist in Argonians and Khajiit

Aside from the obvious different types of khajiit and argonian i don't think it'd be necessary to form sub classes for elves and man.

Unless man, elf and beast were the classes, and we'd break them down to the appropriate race.

But its not necessary.

It's inevitable that modders will add in sub-races, just like they did for Oblivion.

But, in the vanilla Skyrim, I doubt it. There's ten races already, far more than most other games - plenty to go at....
